If anyone has seen Suspiria by Dario Argento, there is one thing they will remember for sure…the score by Goblin. If you’re not familiar with Goblin then read on and you will be soon!
Goblin are an Italian progressive rock band known for the scores (soundtracks to some) for Dario Argento’s films. The band started as Oliver between 1972 and 1973 with Claudio Simonetti (keyboards), Massimo Morante (guitars), Walter Martino (drums) and Fabio Pignatelli (bass guitar). They had some changes then renamed to Cherry Five. Then in early 1975 they changed their name to Goblin. They started working on the Profondo Rosso film project and replaced Walter Martio with Agostino Marangolo. They changed their name because they were releasing this new soundtrack album the same time as the Cherry Five LP was about to be marketed.
The soundtrack album did better than anyone expected. It sold more than one million copies. It spent 52 weeks on the Italian hit parade. It launched a highly successful time for the band until 1978 when they split up after making Zombi (which was also known as Dawn of the Dead).
