The big news from the weekend is that the Spielberg, Aabrams collaboration – Super 8 was a smashing success – taking the number one spot at the box office and bringing horror back to mainstream audiences.
John Carpenter’s The Ward made it’s way to video on demand over the weekend with the theatrical release coming next month. Early reports are that the film is very atmospheric and creepy.
Scream 4 got a DVD and VOD release date of October 4th. I’m surprised they’re waiting until Halloween to release the DVD. Must be to give the overseas numbers enough time to build.
News from the rumor mill has Bill Mosley joining the cast of the new Leatherface reboot – Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3D. This time out – Mosley’s not playing Chop Top – he gets to play the Cook – Drayton. Dog will hunt!
Trick ‘R Treat creator Michael Dougherty has created another short Sam cartoon – this time based on Father’s Day. You can check it out over at FearNET.

And word is that American studios are already clamoring to remake the very cool POV flick Troll Hunter. At least they’re not waiting under a bridge on this idea – but why can’t studios finance filmmakers that are trying to make something original – not just the ones that remake those original things? Hollywood gets MEH.
