Streeborama’s Top Ten Reasons Horror Is Alive and Well in 2011

Attack The Block (2011)

All year long I’ve been hearing murmurs that “horror is dead.” I never could quite understand this sentiment because everywhere I looked, I saw great horror. It didn’t matter if it was in the form of independent films like Junker or Deviling or in comics like Crossed or television shows like The Walking Dead and American Horror Story, I was seeing great horror everywhere I looked. Even in the theaters we had some really fun and imaginative offerings like Troll Hunter, Insidious and Hobo With A Shotgun.

Even though remakes petered out this year in terms of box office returns, I rather enjoyed the last few that came out like Fright Night (2011), Night of the Demons and Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark (2010). They were solid attempts to make entertaining films and in the case of The Thing (2011) prequel was a thoughtful attempt to pay homage to one of the greatest remakes of all time.

Nevertheless there were plenty of reasons outside of the mainstream to enjoy horror this year and in case you didn’t hear about them all – we’ve decided to round up quite a few for you. Without further ado we give you Streeborama’s Top Ten Reasons Horror Is Alive and Well in 2011.
