Streeborama: A Life In Horror.

Streebo lives a life in horror to the fullest.

Welcome back to another edition of Streeborama, my fellow Mutants.  It’s Thursday and we’re all still a bit worn out from the tremendous pace we’ve kept up over the past few years.  In short – we began pre-production on G.H.O.S.T. in the summer of 2009, began filming in October 2009 and have been busy working steadily since.  Only now after we’ve locked in the final cut and FX of G.H.O.S.T. are we ready to slow down and take a bit of a breather.

(Learn the hidden secrets of the universe after the leap – if you dare!)

I’m ready to relax for a few – but since it’s my turn to post a blog – I figured that I better come up with something.  I could talk about all of the crazy movies that I got to watch over the past month which included a slew of modern horror releases such as Troll Hunter, Book of Blood, Fright Night, Apollo 18, Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark, The Thing (2011), and Paranormal Activity 3.  I didn’t make it through the October Movie Challenge on the IMDb as planned but what can you do when life gets in the way of watching movies every day?

Perhaps we could talk about the cheesefests that I’ve watched recently, for example I was invited on an episode of Exploited Cinema with hosts Bat32 and Jdog to discuss rock and roll horror movies so I had to go out and research the sub-genre.  That led me on a wild ride through the world of heavy metal horror films such as Hard Rock Zombies, Trick or Treat, Rock’N’Roll Nightmare, Slumber Party Massacre 2 and Hack-O-Lantern.  Never heard of some of those?  Well depending on your tastes, you could either be missing something wonderful – or something truly horrible.  That’s a decision that you have to make on your own.  While you’re thinking about it – why don’t you download the six hour Halloween special that the grease-fiends over at Exploited Cinema put together for you and then you can decide whether or not rock and roll horror is what you need in your life.

Maybe I could talk about how MVP crewed for Robert W. Filion over the past month as he worked on his latest venture – Athena.  Athena stars Matthew Ewald, Vanelle, Patrick Keenan, Michael Melendez, and Tommy Allen Taylor. Athena tells the story of Carl – a man who lost everything in a fire and was left horribly disfigured, his encounter with Athena and his subsequent attempts to rebuild his life.  It’s a touching story of a man and his dog as told by David Cronenberg.  I wish I could tell you more but Filion might hunt me down and lop off something valuable from my body.  Needless to say, we had a blast working with Robert, Matthew and the rest of the gang at Image Impact Group.  It was a very tough six week shoot – but was spread out over alternating weekends to give us all time to recover in-between.  Keep your eyes on the official website for more information.

Working hard on the set of Athena.

Maybe I’ll just tell you about my own attempts to decompress from all of this post-production work on G.H.O.S.T., filming Athena and promoting MVP – by plunging back into the wild world of video games with the phenomenal Alan Wake on XBOX 360.  I don’t know how many of your are familiar with Alan Wake – but man oh man was this game made for me!  Alan Wake tells the story of horror writer Alan Wake and his trip to a remote location to relax and work on his next book.  Sounds simple enough doesn’t it?  Well that is until he starts encountering the Taken which are people that have become overrun by a dark evil force and begin attacking Alan Wake and anyone nearby.  It’s like playing a game based on Stephen King and his writings and is presented in a mini-series format where the game is broken into several episodes – complete with a beginning, middle, and cliff hanger ending that makes you eager to start the next episode.  Your only weapon against the Taken and the darkness is your flashlight which you use to burn the darkness away from the Taken so you can shoot them in the face!  If you’re looking for a great survival horror game –then I can’t recommend Alan Wake enough.

I could talk about some of these things – but I’m already worn out from telling you about the possibilities.  Perhaps, I better log off and run a few hours of Alan Wake to get my blood going again.  Next week, I’ll try to post something more substantial – and if you’re good – maybe I’ll talk about some of the new scripts that I’m working on.  Until then, remember, Streebo loves you. Living a life in horror is the only way for me.
