The Mutantville Mothership has been in full effect for the month of October. We’ve been busy reviewing movies, finishing post production on G.H.O.S.T., screening movies for festivals and more as we prepare for the craziest weekend of the year – Halloween. With the Myers House NC Halloween Bash on the horizon – we are ready to launch our exclusive interview with John Carpenter this coming Friday – October 28th.
(Get the wits scared out of you after the leap!)
It’s been another wild and crazy week for the Mutantville Players where we continued to work through post-production on one project while another project Scarecrow At Midnight played in no less than two film festivals on Saturday. Scarecrow At Midnight served as a curtain raiser The Watcher’s Council Film Society’s celebration of the 30th anniversary of the original video nasty – Evil Dead in Philadelphia, Mississippi in addition to being a part of the lineup at the Flint Horror Con in Michigan. Good times and scares all around – courtesy of MVP.
MVP NEWS!!!
Meanwhile aboard the Mothership, we’ve been working like busy little bees of doom to complete our work on G.H.O.S.T. for the upcoming screening. After a solid year of post-production the final cuts all seem to be in place and the sound design is coming together from the ground up. MVP will be working hard over the next few days to build the final assembly of the film and the screener DVD.
MVP spent the weekend working with Image Impact Group on the set of Athena once more. We had a weird and wild adventure through the streets of downtown Charlotte in our quest to make the goriest, craziest little short film about a despondent painter that you will ever see – played with nuanced pathos by Matthew Ewald. Be sure to get in on the ground level of what is going to be a very special project by signing up for the official fanpage on Facebook.
In MVP horror news – be sure to check out Streebo’s tribute to David Hess. Friday night, Streebo made the trip out to the Carolina Theatre for a special screening of Last House On The Left in 35mm. Streebo shot and posted a special vid-cast of his adventure. Brento and the Boys spent the weekend playing several Halloween themed gigs with his bands Absolute Zero and Looking for Finland. Look for a full report from Brento in the near future.
SAWBONES COMES HOME!!!
This coming Saturday, Scarecrow At Midnight will be featured as part of the lineup at the Third Annual Myers House NC Halloween Bash. Scarecrow At Midnight will play before the show along with Michael Sharpe’s Deviling and will lead in to a double feature of Halloween 4 The Return of Michael Myers and Night of the Demons starring Linea Quigley! MVP filmed Scarecrow At Midnight on location at the Myers House NC exactly one year ago over what possibly the coldest recorded night in Hillsborough history and we are excited to return triumphantly to the scene of the crime with a movie that hopefully everyone will love.
In case you’re not familiar with Scarecrow At Midnight and the whole Tales From Mutantville saga – be sure to check out the special behind the scenes videos we have posted on Youtube. PARANORMAL ACTIVITY SCARES UP THE BOX OFFICE!!!
As predicted by Streebo last week – Paranormal Activity 3 opened at the box office to a whopping tune of $25 million on Friday night alone – topping off at a stellar $54 million for the entire weekend! This is a significant increase over the $40 million opening of Paranormal Activity 2 from last year. According to Box Office Mojo – Paranormal Activity 3 has set a Fall opening record and rightful effing so!
From Box Office Mojo: “Aside from setting the Fall record, Paranormal Activity 3 also bested its predecessor to take the top opening ever for a pure horror movie. For a slightly less impressive metric, the horror three-quel’s earnings were incredibly front-loaded: its Friday box office represented 48.6 percent of its opening weekend gross, which ranks ninth all-time. It was a slight improvement over Paranormal Activity 2’s 49.4 percent, at least. Distributor Paramount Pictures reports that the audience was 54 percent female and 53 percent under 25 years old (down from Paranormal Activity 2’s 60 percent). A CinemaScore is not currently available.”
