This week we focus on Norman Reedus. I guess I’d have to say that this post serves several purposes. Number one it features Norman Reedus, who will appear again this year at Fandom Fest in Louisville, KY on July 26-28th. Another reason is that this post is for the ladies. Ok, probably not…but I thought that sounded cool. Another reason is that it’s always interesting to focus on an artist. As artists ourselves, this is what we do. I don’t even think I could name all the actors that are interested in other arts. For example, Mr. Reedus is not only an actor, he also paints, sculpts, is a photographer, filmmaker and cinematographer.
Norman Reedus was born in Florida but didn’t stay there long. He moved to Los Angeles and in other cities in Spain, Japan and England. While in Los Angeles he worked at a Harley Davidson shop in Venice. During this same time he showed paintings, sculpture, photography and video in different art shows in the area. Some other artist that met in Venice were Jim Morrison and Ray Manzarek then formed The Doors! So it must be a cool place. Mike Muir of Suicidal Tendencies is also from Venice. Well, before I start sounding like the travel board for Venice, I’ll continue. Mr. Reedus started acting in the play Maps for Drowners at the Tiffany Theater on Sunset Boulevard. In 1997 he was in Mimic by Guillermo del Toro. He would go on to work with del Toro again in Blade 2 with Wesley Snipes, Kris Kristofferson, Ron Perlman, Leonor Varela and Donnie Yen. He was also in the cool film 8MM with Nicholas Cage, Joaquin Phoenix and James Gandolfini. His next film still gets him festival appearances today. The Boondock Saints was released in 1999 right after the Columbine Shooting and didn’t get much of a theater release. It became a cult classic and is still popular today. In The Boondock Saints Norman Reedus stars with his friend Sean Patrick Flanery as well as Willem Dafoe, David Della Rocco and Billy Connolly. He also starred in the follow up The Boondock Saints II: All Saints Day many years later in 2009. Demonstrating that if there is enough of a following for a film they can go back and do another. In 2005, Mr. Reedus starred in John Carpenter’s Cigarette Burns on the Masters of Horror series. Reedus worked with Udo Kier in this film as well as Night of the Templar. He was also in American Gangster with Denzel Washington. He was also in a movie with Thor, I mean Chris Hemsworth called Ollie Klublershturf vs. the Nazis (say that 10 times fast).
Now for what a lot of people know him currently. He plays Daryl Dixon on AMC’s The Walking Dead. Daryl is a tough guy with great crossbow skills. I could go on and on, but let’s get on to the videos!
Let’s start with a Norman Reedus impression by Sean Patrick Flanery.
