Last weekend we shot 75% of the first episode of Muticia’s Movie Morgue. We knew going into it with a cast comprised of Vanelle, England Simpson, Patrick Simpson, Mutie the Mutantville Mutant and Todd A. Britt that we were in good hands. Well – maybe putting Todd in front of the camera was a big gamble – but in the end it paid off. He managed to bring his role as the ornery makeup FX artist to believable life. I guess all those years as an ornery makeup FX artist on MVP sets really paid off. Who knew it was method training all along?
Our cast put on a stellar performance backed by a strong and dedicated crew and we managed to put some really fantastic footage in the can. We have but a handful of minor scenes left to shoot before Muticia’s Movie Morgue episode one is ready – starting with a massive shoot next Sunday April 15th as MVP and Muticia’s Movie Morgue unleash ZOMBIE DAY on the unsuspecting masses. We’re meeting in Albemarle again to shoot a really cool skit for the show that features Muticia as a news reporter reporting from the site of the initial zombie outbreak in George A. Romero’s Night of the Living Dead. Grab your kids, drag your wife along and wheel grandma on down to the Mutantville Productions Studios and get lathered in grey greasepaint so you can all spend the day staggering around a cemetery. It’s going to be a wacky day and we need all the zombies we can get so come out and let your inner ghoul out for the day!

The Mad Monster Party may have come and gone but that doesn’t signal the end for genre entertainment around the Piedmont and Triad. Tonight, the gang at Retrofantasma in Durham are playing an awesome double feature of This Island Earth and the original H.G.Wells’ War of the Worlds. Jim and company always put on a great show so if you’re in the Durham area – stop by and join the fun.
In less than two weeks, our friends at UNC Charlotte Film Studies are hosting the 4th Annual UNC Charlotte Short Film Festival. The deadline is Friday April 13th so make sure you drop your entries in the mail today! They’re looking for the best in music, documentary, experimental and narrative short films so if you have one that fits into those categories – then send it in now! MVP has already submitted Scarecrow At Midnight so if you plan on sending in a horror film – you better bring your “A-game” because we’re unleashing Sawbones and friends on the festival and will show no mercy to our competitors! That said – it’s not a horror festival so I don’t expect to win any awards. We’ll be happy doing what we love and that is sharing our hard work with an audience. It gives me goosebumps every time.
That’s about it for MVP. There are always a million things happening on the Mutantville Mothership and in North Carolina. Take the time to look around and show support for the festivals that you find whether it’s Retrofantasma, the Back Alley Film Series, or even Cinema Overdrive. No matter where it is – if it is genre related – MVP will be there. We’ll see you soon for Zombie Day. To all of our friends and family we wish you a very Happy Easter.
