Movie Morgue Nears Completion, Scarecrow At Midnight spills Blood On The Beach & More on Fridays with MVP.

The boys are back in town. Bog Zombie Jeremy Mullis, Mutie and Todd A. Britt take a break between takes.

Welcome back to the Mutantville Mothership for another edition of Fridays with MVP! It’s been another busy week here on Mutantville.com as we’ve been pulling footage from the recent Muticia’s Movie Morgue “Zombie Day” shoot from last week – and there’s a brand new MP3 on my desktop which contains the final version of the score for G.H.O.S.T. by Martin Bowes of Attrition. This weekend, the first installment of Tales from Mutantville – our little neo-slasher lovingly titled – Scarecrow At Midnight – will play during the Blood On The Beach Film Festival in Virginia.

The first episode of Muticia’s Movie Moruge is almost in the can. We’re setting up the final shoots involving the musical sequence with Absolute Zero and a funny encounter between Dave the PA played by the loquacious Patrick Keenan and Todd The FX Guy played by Todd A. Britt – the FX Guy. It’s like aneo-meta-post-modern comment on the genre. Or I could have seen Cabin In The Woods too many times this week. It’s just a skit – but it’s funny. If everything stays on course we should have the first episode in the can by the end of the month and it will be on Youtube sometime in May.

Mutie the Mutantville Mutant rocks the graveyard with friends.

If you’re at the Blood On The Beach convention this weekend – be sure to watch Scarecrow At Midnight on Sunday at 11am. It plays as part of a block of shorts leading to John Johnson’s The Jester – which many of you may remember from the Mad Monster Party Film Festival. Also playing this weekend is the final public screening of the popular Ghost Trek pilot episode – The Kinsey Report – on Saturday at 3pm. According to series creator Michael Plumides, Ghost Trek has been optioned for a television series. MVP would like to send out a round of congratz to our friends at Ghost Trek. Be sure to check out our exclusive video of Connor McCullagh’s Ghost Trek makeup demo from the Mad Monster Party.

I had an interesting exchange with one of my favorite Bloggers last night via Twitter. Shloggs of Shloggs’ Horror Blog tweeted that he didn’t believe in God, but he does believe in art – to which I had to call him out because quite honestly anyone that claims to believe in art must believe in artists. Art is an extension of the artist. It is the purest form of self expression. Art is neither confined to the latest shiny technological baubles displayed on the movie screens – nor is it confined to the grimy grindhouses of old. It is found on cavern walls in dried ochre paint and inside the design of the latest video games. Art transcends all mediums. VHS. DVD. Blu ray. Nano-cubes. The technologies will always change.

Too many critics (mainly of the amateur variety) state that they will only support works on blu ray at present when this is in fact an immature way of approaching critique as it precludes many great works from considerations. An individual that truly supports the arts does so not because he enjoys the sound of his own voice as so many of these bloggers and podcasters do – but because he genuinely wants to see artists thrive and bring something new and exciting into the world. MVP believes in art and artists and our track record proves it. No one does more to support the independent filmmakers of the area than MVP. We share their trailers, review their movies when no one else will and we even shoot interviews for them to use in promotion.

Martin Bowes of Attrition has completed the score for G.H.O.S.T.

At MVP we have a slogan that says we are changing the face of independent horror. It has never been more true than right now. We put our voice out there to the fans and the filmmakers to let them know what is going on right in the world of genre entertainment and what is also horribly wrong. Not content to merely point and cheer as others search for new modes of expression – MVP constantly leads the way by creating new tales that challenge genre conventions. We don’t sit in our ivory towers and point – we are in the trenches of art battling tooth and nail to bring something new into this world. That is how one belives in art. And we wouldn’t have it any other way.

There are too many podcasters and bloggers out there that started as fans but have forgotten their roots. They turn their backs on the indie filmmakers trying to make their way in or the new artists trying to break in and spend too much time begging for scraps from established names and stars for the sole purpose of building their brand. Never let them forget where they came from and that it was you and I – the fans who put them there – and most importantly remind them that the next Sam Raimi might just be you. It might be me. It might be MVP. But who knows? We’ll keep doing what we do and with your support all things are possible. Thanks for your patronage and thank you all for fighting the good fight. We’ll see you on the battlefield of the soul. There are art bombs to lob into the minds of the people. Let’s get to it.

Congratz to our friends at Dalliance Films for completing work on their full length feature 40 Fears. It’s not horror, sci-fi or fantasy – but it’s a true indie film and a funny one at that so we want to show our support to our fellow NC filmmakers.

Check out the badass trailer to The Raid: Redemption from Indonesia. It’s an awesome actioner making the bloody rounds across the country at the moment.
