The saga of Kevin Smith and Red State started almost 20 years ago with the release of a little black and white film called Clerks. This week, Kevin Smith made his triumphant return to Sundance film festival and to his status as a true “independent filmmaker” (in his own words) when he screened his new horror film Red State for receptive audiences at Sundance. To everyone’s surprise – Smith decided to turn down offers from studios and go it alone. He will take Red State out on a road show across the country and show it to the people without benefit of advertising and the other expensive overhead incurred by the big studios. Kevin Smith’s decision to self-distribute his horror film Red State earns him the distinction of being MVP’s Inspirational Filmmaker of the Week!
