Wild week in the world of horror. Streebo has been hard at work on fine edits for G.H.O.S.T. as well as editing v-logs for Youtube and working on scripts for three different potential MVP projects. Brento has been working on the digital for G.H.O.S.T. as well as completing the FX for Indigo Child with filmmaking wunderkind Robert W. Filion. Geo has been keeping his nose to the grindstone building back links and plotting new marketing areas for MVP to explore. We’re gearing up to join our friends from Ghost Trek at the upcoming ConCarolinas in two weeks. Scarecrow At Midnight will be playing in the film festival that weekend and MVP will be on hand conducting a five part seminar on No Budget Filmmaking for all the aspiring filmmakers in attendance.
John Gulager (Project Greenlight 3, FEAST trilogy) has made the trip to North Carolina to helm the sequel to last year’s wildest horror hit – Piranha 3D and I can think of no other man better suited to direct a movie entitled Piranha 3DD than Gulager! I can’t wait to see the surprises in store.
Hobo with a Shotgun is on the way to a theater near you. Dario Argento is working hard on (the reason he couldn’t keep his Horrorhound Indy 2011 commitment) Dracula 3D . Stakeland is still playing in a limited release. Thor has been smashing the top of the box office and is a rather fun albeit one note four color superhero movie. Scream 4 has made enough box office overseas that the Weinsteins are considering continuing the franchise and have been asking fans if they want to see Scream 5. Apparently the Weinsteins follow the old adage of “build it and they will come” except in this case the only people that come will be the Japanese.
John Carpenter’s latest The Ward has been given a theatrical release date this June. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that the wonderful peeps at the Carolina Theatre in Durham will pick it up for NC showings.
Lars Von Trier has been banned from Cannes for saying he sympathized with Hitler. Note to self for aspiring filmmakers. Keep your sympathy for genocidal fascist dictators to yourself lest ye be banned. I’m not sure if this was a gimmick by Von Trier or some form of pre-emptive protest or perhaps he was being serious.
And last but certainly not least, our good buddy Kenny Caperton of the Myers House NC is working on not only a cool video project for Sherri Zombie but he’s also cutting a new release of his critically acclaimed Halloween tribute film – JUDITH! The Myers House NC also just released their first official shirt design so pick one up while you can! Kenny’s having his next social event for his birthday on June 5th so be sure to join the fun if you’re in the area. unfortunately for us, that’s the weekend that the Mutantville Players will be in attendance at ConCarolinas 2011.
