G.H.O.S.T.-ly happenings and Made In Charlotte Voting Begins on Mutantville Mondays!

G.H.O.S.T. screens this Halloween.

Welcome back to another edition of Mutantville Mondays, my faithful droogies!  We had another wild and productive long weekend in the editing suites of the Mutantville Mothership.  Brento and I were locked inside the Editing Thunderdome for the entire weekend to battle it out with L-cuts, overlays and more after effects work than you can shake a boomstick at!  Post-production is wrapping up nicely on G.H.O.S.T. in anticipation of a special screening for the cast and crew for Halloween.

(Read the rest after the leap!)

We’re in talks with a fantastic new composer for G.H.O.S.T. – but until the ink dries on the deal – we’re going to have to keep our cards close to our chest.  We’ll keep posting updates as they happen to get you ready for the big screening this Halloween.  With the Mutantville Players helping Robert W. Filion with his latest project Athena, casting for our Spring project and wrapping up the final work on G.H.O.S.T. – it should make for a wild and wooly Halloween season!  See you spooks and creeps soon!

The Charlotte Film Community meets the first Monday of each month.

MADE IN CHARLOTTE STRIKES BACK!!!

In local news, the Charlotte Film Community is hosting another Made In Charlotte short film contest.  The theme behind this year’s contest is “what scares me”  The majority of the films involved are skewed towards black comedy with several being very engaging and unpredictable.

From the Made In Charlotte Website:

The MADE IN CHARLOTTE competition is a way for these filmmakers to showcase their talent. The winner of the MADE IN CHARLOTTE contest will receive a $500 cash prize, be the lead in film for the premiere of Tucker and Dale vs Evil at the Back Alley Film Series, and will receive the official MADE IN CHARLOTTE stamp at the end of their film. The purpose of the stamp is so that as these films go out into other cities and states, viewers are made aware of the creative talent we have here in Charlotte. There will be a panel of judges for the films as well as a chance to vote online for the viewer’s choice award.  So if you are interested in being a part of this exciting event, visit our rules page to get all the details.  Hope to see you at the movies.

You can watch the movies for the Made In Charlotte contest at the official website.

BATTLE AT THE MOVIES!!!

The big winners for speculative fiction this summer have been Super 8 and Rise of the Planet of the ApesSuper 8 is making it’s transition to DVD and Blu Ray at the moment while Rise of the Planet of the Apes has been playing strong for over six weeks now with a weekend gross of $1,184,000 bringing it’s total Stateside gross up to $173,614,000 with a whopping $228,900,000 worldwide for a grand total of $402,514,000!  This means one thing and one thing only that those damn dirty apes will return in a bigger and badder sequel.

Contagion dropped 41 percent to an estimated $8.6 million bringing it’s 17-day total to $57.1 million.  Straw Dogs dropped 59 percent in its second week to $2.1 million for a 10 day total of $8.9 million.

The most interesting statistic to me is that the Guillermo Del Toro produced Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark remake is still ranking in the top twenty and took in another $346,000 stateside.  The movie has shown slightly more staying power than the other recent horror efforts such as Apollo 18, Final Destination 5 and Shark Night 3D.  Although the overseas grosses are very minimal at the present I predict that the movie will go on to have a strong cinematic afterlife on DVD and Blu Ray.
