Listen up you dog-faced gremlins! It’s time to stop your grinning and drop your linen because Jim and the RetroTreasures gang at the Carolina Theatre in Durham are bringing you the best double feature you’ll see all year in the form of a Stanley Kubrick two-for-one with Full Metal Jacket and A Clockwork Orange! Here’s Jim from Retrofantasma to tell you more:
“When it was released in 1987, Full Metal Jacket was overshadowed by 1986’s Platoon. It hardly mattered that Stanley Kubrick was its director. Audiences saw the film as just another Vietnam War movie during a time when those kinds of films were seemingly popping-up in theatres every week. I remember this because I was there in 1987. Platoon was better, everybody argued back then. Wait 25 years and that’s the film people will still be talking about, they said. Well, it’s 2013 and not once on our surveys has a single person ever requested Platoon. They want Private Joker and Gomer Pyle. For this double feature, another war movie like 1977’s A Bridge Too Far would have been a bit much. I almost booked Smokey and the Bandit, just to see how people coped with it. Clockwork is certainly no lightweight compared to Jacket, but it’s the double feature fans have been asking for.”
Join your fellow droogs this Friday night for an evening of celluloid entertainment. The show starts at 7pm and tickets are only $8. For more information – visit the Retrofantasma website and the official Facebook fanpage.
