Dead Can Dance 2012 Tour

A few weeks ago Dead Can Dance came to Durham, NC. I’ve wanted to see them for years and I was super excited to learn the were going to do a tour in the summer of 2012. At first they posted they were coming to Atlanta on a Monday and luckily I waited, because then it was announced they would be in North Carolina! What a great show. The only thing that was kind of disappointing was the audience. Every time they would stop between songs, people would yell out requests, like they were just winging it or something. I don’t know if people realized that the lights were synced up to the music and that they aren’t a bar band or something. Other than that though….a great concert.

So who are Dead Can Dance?

When I told people about the show, I was repeatedly asked, “is that a really heavy band?” or “is that a metal band?” The answer to that is no. I decided to post some videos to get a sampling of the music. Dead Can Dance is diverse though and I would recommend listening to music throughout the years, not just one album.

The show started out with an incredible performance by David Kuckhermann. I was introduced to the Hang. What an amazing instrument. It’s sort of like an inverted steel drum or a flying saucer. Here’s a video.

The Ubiquitous Mr. Lovegrove is one of my favorite songs by Dead Can Dance.

They played this one when I saw them. This is from 1993.

The Carnival is Over is another great song.
