directed by Lenny Abrahamson
Hello again from the BACK ALLEY FILM SERIES!
If you have never checked out one of our Back Alley Film Series films now is the perfect time to do so. We know sometimes that series can be a little challenging but this upcoming film is sure to please everyone.
This Thursday night (Sept. 18th) is FRANK, starring Michael Fassbender (12 YEARS A SLAVE, SHAME), Maggie Gyllenhaal (SECRETARY, THE DARK KNIGHT) and Domhnall Gleeson (ANNA KARENINA, CAVALRY) as a group of off-beat musicians looking for their big break.
The catch: The lead singer wears a giant paper mache head that he never takes off … not when he sings, not when he showers, not ever.
A young wannabe musician, Jon (Gleeson), finds himself out of his depth when he joins an avant-garde pop band led by the mysterious and enigmatic Frank (Fassbender), a musical genius who hides himself inside a large fake head, and his terrifying bandmate Clara (Gyllenhaal)
Irish director Lenny Abrahamson follows up his award-winning films ADAM, PAUL, AND GARAGE, and WHAT RICHARD DID with this offbeat “must see” comedy.
The 2014 film has been called “One of the most charming movies i’ve seen in a long time” by The Nerdist and Indiewire has said “Fassbender’s performance is a master class”
Complex.com said this: “One of the years oddest, but also all around best movies so far”
FRANK starts at 7:30 p.m. at newly renovated (with luxury seating) Carolina Cinemas Charlotte, 9630 Monroe Road. Tickets are $5 for members and $10 for non-members. Tickets can be purchased in advance at movietickets.com. CFS Members can buy full priced tickets online and be reimbursed in the lobby for the Member rate. So get those tickets in advance (this one is gonna be full).
And if the renovations were not enough, Carolina Cinemas Charlotte now sells Beer as well as assorted snacks and popcorn. So you will have a great night at the movies.
It bears repeating: FRANK is “Bonkers and Brilliant” said Time Out New York … and is a “Must See” according to the New York Post. The film is fun, whimsical and has a ton of heart and tenderness in it. We know you are really gonna love this one.
See you Thursday night the 18th!
