Blacula was part of the Blaxploitation or Blacksploitation wave of the 70’s. In the early 1970’s the term was coined by NAACP head Junius Griffin. It’s considered an ethnic subgenre that contains films made specifically for black audiences. As we know, they had an impact on lots of us. Just ask Streebo!

Blacula was directed by William Crain and stars William Marshall. It’s about an 18th century African prince named Mamuwalde who is turned into a vampire by none other than Count Dracula himself. He is then locked in a coffin by Dracula after a party at the Count’s home. Here’s the twist. The coffin is bought and brought to Los Angeles two centuries later. Of course there is a police detective that is tracking him. I found some clips for you to enjoy below!

“Dracula’s Soul Brother!” – That line is actually in this trailer. How funny is that?

Uh-oh…she calls him “boy.”

I found both Blacula movies on Amazon for under 8 bucks!
