Roger Ebert, great film critic, passes at age 70.

Tis a sad day indeed here on the Mutantville Mothership as word has come through the Internet Hive Mind that one of the great critics of our age Roger Ebert – has succumbed at long last in his battle with cancer. As a child I watched Ebert and partner Gene Siskel’s film review programs on television. It was one of the few way to preview movies outside of the official trailer and the only true source of critical discussion on the art of films available to me at that time.

Although Ebert often derided the genre work that I so loved – he was just as quick to uphold the great examples of genre works such as John Carpenter’s Halloween, Star Wars, so on and so forth. He and partner Gene Siskel helped shape my perception of a how a film should be experienced and discussed. For that I am forever thankful.
