My work required an especially early drive in this morning to catch an early release time. Passing through the quiet city, shrouded in mist and fog, I reflected on the peculiar way in which I’m only fully in gear creatively, when I’m overbooked in every sense of the word. I have so much going on right now and I realize that is absolutely the way I prefer things. It seems that this is the only time when my creative inclinations kick into overdrive.
There’s nothing like a long commute to get my mind in motion and a 10 hour day to make me eager to get to my home office and either write or edit.
In the non-Mutantville category, I recently completed a screenplay for a side “passion project” I’ve been tooling around with for months. It’s a 10 -15 minute horror comedy I hope to produce some day. You probably won’t hear too much about it here until it’s ready to screen.
There’s not really much time to talk of non-MVP material as there is so much Mutantville on my plate at the moment. For instance authoring the most complicated DVD I’ve ever created. You could think of “Tales from Mutantville” in this light. It’s basically 5 short films, with their respective extra features, rolled into a single DVD. Those of you who’ve glimpsed the menu of the special edition of the “Devil Comes Down” DVD will know that when it comes to extras, MVP doesn’t muck around. That 8 minute film has almost 2 hours of behind the scenes & extras. Anyways, Fright Night Film Fest approaches and as Streebo and Geo will make their annual pilgrimage, the plan is to have TFM DVD’s in hand for the con.
For the past 2 weeks I’ve been involved in securing locations for Robert W. Filion’s, “Athena.” I’m starting to get the big head here. Robert asked for some pretty specific locations not easily acquired, for instance a quarry, morgue and a cemetery with graveside setup. So far I’m 3 for 3 as every phone call I’ve made has resulted in securing one of those locations. I cannot tell you how uncommon that kind of luck is when it comes to lining up places to bring a film crew in. Suffice to say I’ve got good friends in each of these instances who really hooked me, and by proxy Robert up.
Last night for a quick run over to Concord where we started off with some stunningly good sushi at Fuji’s. Robert and I then toured the morgue facility and let me tell you, it’s going to look amazing. We also visited the cemetery and took some panoramic photos. Pre-visualization speeds things up so much on shoots like this. We did manage to get caught in a sudden shower. I can hardly wait for Saturday to get here. I think my MVP partners will be on hand to help out and Todd A. Britt is the makeup lead for this leg of Athena so it will kind of be like a TFM reunion.
Tonight I leave my desk here in downtown Charlotte and head to 2 hours of practice with Blak Saturn. Hey, consistently turning out “Out of this world rock-n-roll” takes lots of practice. Hanging out with these guys is really a joy for me so the work is not even like work. Speaking of work, the band continues its good work on Friday night at OneMor Bar & Grill in Concord, NC. The show starts at 9 so come support us if you are into live music. The word is that OneMor has amazing chicken wings. That’s the gospel according to Tommy Allen Taylor.
In closing I’ll say if you call yourself a Science Fiction fan and you haven’t seen Prometheus yet, what’s keeping you? If you want to hear why this film is a must watch open up your iTunes right now. Under podcasts, search for MVP Mutant Radio. Hit the subscribe button and then give the latest episode a listen.
Until next time.
Hello! I am looking for ways to promote a kickstarter horror/thriller film project called ‘The Sibling’. It stars Mischa Barton, playing a school psychologist trying to help a troubled boy who frequently gets picked on as he deals with the recent loss of his older brother and protector.
The film is currently in post production, but more funding is needed to enhance the special effects and the sound. If our fundraising goal is met, all those who pledged will receive rewards based on the dollar amount they contributed.
Any amount you can promote or contribute will be greatly appreciated! Watch the trailer for the film on the link below. Thanks!
