Usually, I keep things light on my weekly Vlog/Blog article but from time to time I feel the need to speak on a serious matter. Any of you who live in the Yadkin-Pee Dee River Basin, as I do, or indeed in the whole of North Carolina need to be aware that a proverbial fox has been in the hen house and is currently attempting to establish a long term residence there.
(Read the rest after the leap!)
Personally, I thought that the misdeeds and poor stewardship of the Yadkin water rights by the greedy and indeed murderous corporation known as Alcoa was apparent to all the residents here. It seems I was wrong. By means of a clever campaign of misinformation the company has effectively gotten many of the uninformed citizens of our great Stanly county to place a ton of pressure on the local politicians to accept a deal for a further 50 years lease on said water rights for not so much as 1 guaranteed job. In other words, after having proverbially screwed us for half a century, they are attempting to do so again as if none of their misdeeds ever occurred. This is a company that knowingly exposed it’s employees to carcinogenic substances without notifying them or even providing personal air filters. Their behavior is beyond contemptuous.
UNC-TV’s “The Alcoa Story” that its reporter, Ezster Vadja, was putting together was mysteriously squashed after the first of a planned 3 segment documentary and was aired with a disclaimer that it wasn’t finished nor had it been vetted for editorial quality or fairness. Very strange indeed. Vadja was later fired in relation to her work on the Alcoa Story & alleged misconduct.
In short, I’ve gotten my hands on the rough cut of the segment that did air. I urge anyone who lives in the area and cares about their own health and well-fare of their children to download and view this immediately.
In the coming weeks I’ll be launching a new Facebook fan page for the Yadkin River Alliance and sharing the links on my blog here. In the mean time please visit the fan page for Yadkin River Keeper to being to see the big picture. Alcoa is evil folks. Don’t let them snow you!
I’ll close in saying that the opinions expressed in my blog articles are my own and not necessarily those of my partners or of Mutantville.com.
