Since the big horror box office release this week is the remake of Tom Holland’s 1985 classic vamp film Fright Night, we thought we would honor the occasion by sharing an original vampire film – 30 Days of Night. If you are not interested in remakes – then check out this modern classic from the mind of writer Steve Niles (Mystery Society, Criminal Macabre, Remains). 30 Days of Night tells the story of a small town in Alaska that is plunged into thirty days of night for winter and invaded by vampires who have come to feast.

The backstory to 30 Days of Night is fascinating because Steve Niles was unsuccessful when trying to pitch 30Days of Night as a motion picture. He turned the script into a comic book script which was in turn illustrated with visceral flare by Ben Templesmith and by published by IDW Publishing in 2002. Five years later the hit comic made the leap all the way to the screen as 30 Days of Night directed by David Slade from Steve Niles’ script was released in theaters across the nation.
So what are you waiting for? It’s Saturday! You can watch an original horror movie filled with all the violent visceral bloodsucking that one expects from a vampire movie right now – online – for free! Grab your snack. Turn out the lights.
