In 2002, Neil Marshall exploded onto the scene with a wild werewolf movie called Dog Soldiers. Dog Soldiers tells the story of six British Army soldiers dropped into the Scottish Highlands to perform routine training exercises only to discover that something much more sinister is afoot – approximately seven afoot tall to be exact – with ears, fur and big pointy teeth! Neil Marshall would go on to become a member of the celebrated “Splat Pack” of filmmakers that included Rob Zombie, Eli Roth, Darren Lynn Bousman, James Gunn, Alexandre Aja, Greg McLean, James Wan, Leigh Wannell, and Robert Rodriguez. The Splat Pack lead the way into brutal and terrifying horror territory in the early 2000’s.
Marshall would return to horror in 2005 with his second film The Descent which would become a horror film for the ages. Unfortunately after such a promising start – Marshall took his foot off the horror pedal and retreated into other more action oriented properties leaving the horror world wanting more.
