When an American couple (Katharine Ross and Sam Elliott) have a car accident in the English countryside, the other driver offers to take them to his lavish country estate. Did you know…?
In conjunction with Universal Pictures, Retrofantasma is proud to present the last surviving 35mm prints of Jaws 2 and The Legacy. Like the first film, the production of Jaws 2 was troubled. Roy Scheider reluctantly returned to reprise his role as Martin Brody after having quit a role in The Deer Hunter two weeks into the production because of creative differences. Universal used Scheider’s failure to fulfill this contractual obligation to force him to appear in Jaws 2. Despite the production problems, Jaws 2 was the highest-grossing sequel in history until 1979 (beaten by Rocky II). It was also the most expensive film that Universal had produced up to that time, costing almost $30 million. It was the third highest grossing movie worldwide in 1978 with $187 million. Based on his work on The Legacy (and 1981’s Eye of the Needle), Director Richard Marquand attracted the attention of George Lucas and was offered the directorial chair of Return of the Jedi. Stars Katharine Ross and Sam Elliott fell in love while shooting the film and were married in 1984.
