In honor of Rutger Hauer’s visit to The Mad Monster Party this coming weekend in Charlotte, it seems fitting to highlight The Hitcher. In 1986, The Hitcher was released. It’s about a young man that picks up a murderous hitch-hiker and gets away from him, but the hitch-hiker starts stalking him and frames him for the crimes the hitcher committed. The film stars Rutger Hauer, C. Thomas Howell and Jennifer Jason Leigh. It was directed by Robert Harmon who also directed the TV movie, Gotti. Little known fact, he was also the second unit director on They Call me Bruce. The Hitcher was written by Eric Red.

Rutger Hauer is just awesome, cool, mysterious, scary, sexy, cold, everything a great villain should be, in the Hitcher. I LOVE Blade runner, but to me, this is Rutger’s finest movie.
I am devastated that this lovely man wonderful actor and all round great one, Rutger Hauer, has died. ðŸ˜
