The Walking Dead Mid-Season Review on Streeborama!

The Walking Dead season two mid-season finale closed with a bang.

The Walking Dead season two mid-season finale closed with a bang.

The number one drama on television – The Walking Dead – has hit it’s mid-season point for it’s sophomore season.  The Walking Dead mid-season finale aired this past weekend and has left everyone on the edge of their seat as some questions were answered, some guts were munched and some new questions sprung up to take their place.

What will happen between Ric, Shane and Lori?  Will the survivors leave the farm?  Will Merle come back for revenge?

There are so many possibilities and we all have to wait!  The Walking Dead will be on hiatus until February 2012!  While you’re waiting – join Streebo for a discussion on the progress of the season so far.  This week we’re talking The Walking Dead on Streeborama.

Johnny Brento’s JuJu – Black Magic

Black Magic - Jeremy Mullis's First Film Project

This week I thought I’d take the opportunity to promote an upcoming project for my friend, bandmate and fellow MVP’r, Jeremy Mullis. About 8 months ago Jeremy shared his first attempt at short film with me, shot on an extremely low res camera and loosely edited. He called it, “Black Magic.” Even with the technical limitations, I found the concept interesting and encouraged Jeremy to expand the story beyond a single character in the original and to put it into proper script format. In short, he’s done that and is ready to put the people and resource together to shoot the film.

Speaking of the high concept, here it is. A young man, seeking to become powerful & rich, obtains an ancient demonic manuscript and attempts to summon a hellish demon to do his biding.  He gets more than he’s bargaining for.

Here’s where you come in. So here are the facts as I know them. The film will require a cast of 3 actors and as many crew members as we can find to lend a hand. Two males & one female who can portray 17 – 22. The shoot should entail a single Saturday or Sunday once the locations are secure. The casting will be via individual reads either. This would be a no budget project, so there would be no pay to any participants, but you would be helping out an awesome guy who’s always been quick to help out on all of our projects.

As of now there’s no schedule as the final tweaks are still being put on the script. Jeremy hopes to shoot within the next few months. If you are interested in being a part of “Black Magic” either as an actor or a crew member, shoot Jeremy Mullis via facebook.

Hopefully, you all will have another rocking MVP week!

Day of the Dead on Scary Movie Saturday Halloween Edition!

George A. Romero's Day of the Dead

It’s the darkest day of horror the world has ever known – it’s George A. Romero’s Day of the Dead!  In 1969, George A. Romero changed the genre of horror as we know it and the way films are made as we know it with his seminal zombie classic Night of the Living Dead.  He followed that up almost a decade later with the now equally important Dawn of the Dead which ushered in an era of gore films.  In the 80′s Romero found himself unable to secure the financing he wanted for his third entry in the zombie series and was forced to scale the entire project back.

When Day of the Dead was finally released – fans of his previous two films didn’t know what to make of the bleak nihilistic tale of terror that unfolded before them.  With time – Romero’s Day of the Dead has come to be heralded as another classic in a series filled with classics.  It’s a personal favorite of the Mutantville Players and we’re happy that someone uploaded it to Youtube so that we could share it with you here.

Re-release as opposed to remake?

Zombie - Lucio Fulci

Lucio Fulci's Zombie

Unless you’ve been in a cave for the past few years, you’ve probably noticed there have been a few remakes of famous movies from the past (and coming soon a remake of Spiderman from like 10 years ago! ugh!). To me this is getting more and more annoying. I understand people have always made remakes of films, songs, art, etc… but when is enough enough? I could go on a whole yellfest about the Spiderman thing alone. I mean why remake a movie that is only 10 years old? What is the future of this trend? Will they remake any movie that made money? So we can expect remakes or re-imaginings of movies like: The Titantic, Gone With The Wind, Jaws(really surprises me no one has remade this one yet), Sparticus, Planet of the Apes…ok, that last one is a joke. Maybe they should just remake movies the next year if it did well.

Any way today I was looking around online and noticed that there is a re-release of Lucio Fulci’s Zombie this October in theaters nationwide (and Canada for all of our friends to the north, eh). This I like. Instead of someone making a new version…they are showing the original movie.

Devil’s Crossing A Zombie Western Comes to DVD!

DEVIL’S CROSSING DVD HITS THE STREETS!!!

The much anticipated zombie western from writer/director James Ryan Gary – Devil’s Crossing – has come to DVD in the form of an unrated director’s cut! Devil’s Crossing hit the streets this past week on Tuesday August 10th and stars Michael Sharpe (of Split, Scarecrow At Midnight & Monomaniacal), Patrick Keenan (of Zombie Kings, Never Feed The Troll & Remnants) and Michael Ruff (of Night Feeders, Never Feed The Troll, & Cold Storage) star in a supernaturally charged western about a little town that exists on the edge of hell.

Final Destination 5 Dies at B.O. and Freddy Krueger slashes up Mortal Kombat on Mutantville Mondays!

We had a busy weekend aboard the Mutantville Mothership this weekend. We moved several projects through various stages of production and had a blast doing it. We’re gearing up to get Tales From Mutantville onto DVD and Blu Ray as well as putting the final touches on G.H.O.S.T. to get it ready for the Fall. Lots of fun things are coming down the pipe for MVP and we thank you all for being a part of it!

FINAL DESTINATION 5 STALLS AT BOX OFFICE GATES!!!

The horror season is off to a slow start as Final Destination 5 stalls at the box office gates this weekend with a lowly take of $18 million.  Still, $18 million is better than the $11 million that Grindhouse gained during it’s entire theatrical run so perhaps third place at the box office is not necessarily so bad.  The movie is out late in the Summer season but early enough in the fall season to still be lurking in theaters and dollar theaters come Halloween.  This Halloween season is packed as each weekend becomes a battleground for the horror top spot with Fright Night coming this week, followed by Red State, Apollo 18, Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark and Paranormal Activity 3 over the coming months.
