MVP working around the clock in the name of horror.
Welcome back to another bombastic edition of Fridays With MVP!!! Horror is alive and well as Underworld Awakening and The Grey hit the box office last week with The Woman In Black hitting theaters today. Retro Classics is showing a double feature of The Wolfman and Dracula tonight at the Carolina Theatre in Durham and their annual Nevermore Film Festival is just around the corner.
After a long week suffering under the thumb of a bad cold, Streebo is back in the land of the living to fill his Friday typing quotient with news, rumor, gossip and gospel. Video production has lagged just a hair as we’ve hit the wall of late. I’ve been working on getting more video and article content out to you all but haven’t had the energy to work late at night as per my usual modus operandi. I am hopeful that a long weekend of rest will see a return to form.
Not to be left alone to hog the suffering spotlight, Brento’s wife Nancee stepped up to the plate this week when she horribly burned her leg in an accident requiring brief hospitalization. She’s doing better now and is being given around the clock TLC by Brento. Please join MVP in sending her a collective “get well” via Facebook, Twitter, or even in person if you like.
Unless you’ve been living under an internet rock you should have heard the official announcement about the Mad Monster Party Film Festival this March. Since you come here for some insider info I may as well give you a few tidbits. I’ve been in talks with the promoters of Mad Monster Party for a couple months now about the possibility of hosting a film festival at the Mad Monster Party so I am very happy to see it come to fruition.
Just in time for the Academy Awards, it’s the MVP Playa Awards! Last night, Streebo finished his last review of the mainstream horror releases of 2010 when he went to see Darren Aronofsky’s Black Swan. Mutantville.com has tallied the votes and now we are ready to present this year’s MVP Playas Awards.
Streebo began reviewing all the major mainstream horror releases during their theatrical run back in 2004 on the IMDb Horror Board in the topic: Diagnosing the Problems and Celebrating Modern Horror. Streebo’s First double feature review was a back to back viewing of Saw and The Grudge. The topic was eventually locked on the IMDb due to exceeding the allowed number of responses which at one point numbered almost 800 in total.
Streebo has kept the tradition alive since 2007 when he changed the title to Celebrating Modern Horror and began posting v-log reviews as opposed to written essays. He spent all of last year watching the latest releases and reviewing them for you and today we are proud to announce the winners of 2010′s MVP Playas Award.

We’ve had another busy weekend at the offices of Mutantville.com this past week. Since we finished the first cut of G.H.O.S.T. at the beginning of January – we’ve been working feverishly to complete the script for new scenes and contact all of our principle players about the possibility of returning to shoot more scenes. We are happy to announce that the entire cast has agreed to return to shoot new scenes. We’ve been lining up locations, working out new ideas and continuing with the post-production process on the visual FX of G.H.O.S.T.
Writer/director J.T. McRoberts has been working hard on the script for the new scenes and will soon send it out to the actors. He states that while the new script is all but finished – there are still one or two lines of dialogue that would – as Mark Borchardt might say -“make the pope weep” so he’s trying to iron those rough spots out first. McRoberts states “I always want my scripts to knock your you-know-what in the dirt – so there’s never a rush even when we’re pressed for time. I promise this is the final revision. It’s go time. We’re eager to get everyone back in front of the camera.”
Be on the look out for another edition of On The Red Carpet with Catherine Trail and Charlotte Web Video. Mutantville’s own Streebo , Geo Swanko and actor Jack Stecher were on hand to talk to Catherine about the progress of G.H.O.S.T. and the upcoming projects at Mutantville.com. Look for the video to be posted soon courtesy of Charlotte Web Video.
Big things lay ahead for Mutantville in the coming month. The first official G.H.O.S.T. t-shirt will soon be made available to the cast and crew. More details on that soon. Be sure to keep checking back as we update you on the progress of ABOMINATIONS from Image Impact Group and take you to see limited screenings of The Howling. Be with us as we howl for the premiere of The Wolfman and come along for the ride as we give you a guided tour of the upcoming Horrorhound convention in Indianapolis featuring the screening of NIGHTBREED uncut!
Phew! All this and 2010 is just barely getting started.
