Mad Monster Party Sizzle Reel on Jb’s JuJu

Mad Monster Party Sizzle Reel on Jb’s JuJu

Mar 13, 2013

Once a year I get to take a bunch of trailers and graphics from film makers all over the states and indeed the world and turn them into something distinctly Mutantville. That’s the mashup graphics reel for our annual Mad Monster Party Film festival. Last year we went with a metalic dark industrial look for the reel and it was generally well received. This year, I’m going with something a little closer to the heart. GRINDHOUSE Baby!Streebo came by yesterday with a envelope full of trailers. We agreed on the look I wanted to go with and work commence. He updated the website whilst we chatted and I dug into the pulp strip animation for clips from the various films represented. It’s a lot of work to pull in a week, The same week in which I have to prepare for a gig with a new band and get through a minimum of 4 days of Crossfit and JiuJitsu training. I do it because I love you, the Mutantville Mutants and I want to ensure my longevity artistic snaity so as not to deprive you of your beloved JuJu each and every Wednesday. The plan is to debuet the sizzle reel for the 2nd Annual Mad Monster Party Film Festival either this Friday or on Sunday afternoon, depending on how long it takes me to bang it...

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey Review

Well I’d imagine that I’m not the only one that saw “The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey.” According to the Wall Street Journal, it “earned $84.8 million in North America in its first weekend in theaters.” The next closest film, Rise of the Guardians, only $7.4 million (isn’t it funny to say only 7.4 million like that’s pocket change or something). This doesn’t surprise me because when I was looking for showtimes, The Hobbit was showing in IMAX 3d, High Frame Rage 3D, regular 3D, 2D and VHS (ok…made up that last one). This was a tough choice for me… Why? Because last year I saw this video: Click to read more about my unexpected journey to see the film. As discussed in the video, being that they shot it at 48 frames per second, and on the REDs, it was tough to decide whether to see it in IMAX 3d which would be huge and awesome OR 3D on a smaller screen with the high frame rate (HFR). Ultimately I chose the IMAX 3D because when I saw Avatar this way, it was incredible. So I thought I’d be smart and get the tickets online, but this whole “convenience fee” thing annoys the crap out of me. Is it really that convenient to print stuff off myself? Seeing as I don’t have a printer then NO it isn’t. Especially not to pay $4 to hunt down a printer. Then I tried to get them on the phone. Easier, not really but cheaper and you just pick them up at the little automated things near the theater. The unexpected part was getting to Concord Mills mall and taking about over an hour to go about 3 or 4 miles. I didn’t see that coming. We finally made it there and got in line near the front. Luckily there wasn’t much of a line for the 4pm matinee show (not 30 minutes before showtime anyway). There were some awesome trailers before the film including a cool one for Man of Steal which will come out next year as well as a long trailer for the new Star Trek film. Speaking of trailers….here is the one for...
