This week on Trailer Park Tuesday, we’re going to do something out of character – we’re going to talk about ourselves. I know! Crazy, right?
It’s been a long hard road from pre-production in 2009 to the conclusion of post-production at the end of 2011 for G.H.O.S.T. (2011). G.H.O.S.T. (2011) started as an idea for an original television pilot and along the way grew and morphed into a full length feature. It was a labor of love from beginning to end and was only made possible by the contributions of so many talented individuals from North Carolina and specifically the Charlotte area.
Work is still ongoing on the final score for G.H.O.S.T. but after that it’s but a few steps away from the DVD release. Beyond that we do have some cool things planned for the future so stay tuned for an official announcement soon. MVP would like to send out a round of thanks to everyone involved in the making of G.H.O.S.T. (2011).
Without all of you, it wouldn’t have been possible. So without further ado – check out the trailer for the supernatural thriller G.H.O.S.T. (2011) starring Kathy Butler Sandvoss, Matthew Ewald, Steven D. Tucker, Clint Jones, Dave Tunik, Jason Wheeley, Jack Stecher, Kayli Tolleson and more local talent than you can shake a EPK monitor at! Featuring fashion designs by Luis Machicao and special make-up FX by Todd A. Britt, you won’t believe your eyes.
Tired of dying Easter eggs this weekend? Then get out to the Triad theatres this weekend to see a wave of movies filled with people that are dying to scare you! Tonight, the Carolina Theatre in Durham is hosting a double feature of The Changeling and Stephen King’s Pet Sematary and then tomorrow night Cinema Overdrive returns to The Colony with a double feature of John Carpenter’s Assault on Precinct 13 and Sam Raimi’s Thou Shalt Not Kill, Except . . .
Make your way to Retrofantasma tonight at the Carolina Theatre for this spooky supernatural double feature of two of the finest horror films ever made. The Changeling is up first at 7pm followed by Pet Sematary at 9pm. Get there early to sign up for cool door prizes as usual. Tickets are only $8 for both movies. As usual it’s more fun than you can shake your boomstick at!
From the Retrofantasma website: “Although set in the US, The Changeling was largely filmed in Canada. It was the first film to win Best Picture in the Canadian Film Awards after its name was changed to the Genie Awards. The story is based upon events experienced by writer Russell Hunter while he was living in the Henry Treat Rogers Mansion of Denver, Colorado. Director Martin Scorsese placed The Changeling on his list of the 11 scariest horror films of all time. Pet Sematary was the first filmed screenplay that Stephen King adapted from one of his own novels. King required the movie to be filmed in Maine and his screenplay to be followed rigorously. George Romero was originally set to direct but when filming was delayed, he dropped out. Tom Savini was offered the director’s chair, but turned down the project. Eventually, Mary Lambert stepped in. Shot for a $11.5 million, Pet Sematary would gross more than $57 million and become the highest-grossing horror film of 1989.”
And tomorrow night ring in Easter properly by watching a gritty double feature at The Colony in Raleigh starting with John Carpenter’s Assault on Precinct 13 at 9:30pm and then Sam Raimi’s Thou Shalt Not Kill, Except. . . at11:30pm. Tickets for Cinema Overdrive are only $8.50 for both movies so you’d be crazy not to take advantage of it!
Check out the trailers below and then get thyself to the theater or else this Sunday you won’t wake up to the Easter Bunny , you’ll wake up in the Pet Sematary.

Recent reports have revealed that the long awaited adaptation of H.P.Lovcraft’s At The Mountains of Madness from Guillermo Del Toro has been put on indefinite hold. This is a sad sad day as Del Toro is a fave of MVP and often cited as the best director working in the horror genre today. Del Toro’s horror output has been sadly non-existent since the 2007 release of Pan’s Labyrinth.
Just this week, MVP was thrilled to discover a new trailer for At The Mountains of Madness – not from Del Toro – but from a group called Cthulhu Films. In the past, Lovecraft adaptations have not fared well as the unspeakable horrors described in Lovecraft’s prose fail to impress when adapted to the big screen. There have been notable exceptions such as From Beyond, Dagon, or Call of Cthulhu – but for the most part, Lovecraft’s horrors are best left unseen. Let’s hope that is not the case with this latest adaptation.

Since we’ve reached the end of the first cut of G.H.O.S.T., let’s take a look back at the genesis of the project – beginning with Brento’s initial walk through of the opera house.
Work for G.H.O.S.T. started back in January with the launch of the MVP Blog here at Mutantville.com and the beginning of intense pre-production on G.H.O.S.T.. The cast and crew put in many a long day and night throughout production during October and November and we’ve carried that level of intensity into post-production by shooting pick ups all through December. We started editing during the second week of filming and are finally nearing completion of the first assembly of G.H.O.S.T..
There is so much going on behind the scenes that’s it’s becoming increasingly difficult to keep producing timely updates in addition to doing the actual work. This has been an amazing adventure so far. The footage looks great. The performances were fantastic and the special make-up FX are spectacular. Just as it seems we’re nearing the end – we are in fact reaching a new beginning. It’s not official yet – but we are working on ideas for new scenes to shoot for the movie – to expand it from it’s intended half hour format into a full length feature! That’s right – we will still be able to cut G.H.O.S.T. down to a very tight half hour TV pilot s intended – but there is enough material there that with a few smart additions – we can expand the story a touch and turn G.H.O.S.T. into a full movie.
I’m so excited that I can hardly contain myself. While this is good news for us – it also means that this non-stop rollercoaster of work that we’ve been on since July will continue for the foreseeable future! Thank you all for your help in making this dream a reality. Everyone in MVP plays an important role and we couldn’t have made our movie without you! Keep checking the MVP Blog for more updates as they happen!
