The Carolina Theatre Needs a Kickstart, MVP’s Angela Interviewed and Mutant TV Galore on Fridays With MVP!

The Carolina Theatre is Kickstarting an Historic Campaign.

Welcome to another edition of Fridays With MVP! This is your humble host and narrator Streebo back with you once again. I’m going to start this edition out a bit differently as I am going to shift the focus over to the Carolina Theatre and their ongoing Kickstarter campaign.

They are raising funds to create an historic exhibit inside the Carolina Theatre. I cannot say this enough that if you are a filmmaker anywhere in the United States that you want your movie to play at the Carolina Theatre. Help recognize it’s rich history by helping them now.

From Meredith Vey’s latest update:
“Thank you Backers – we are more than halfway there to our goal of $13,000 by January 20th to support the Historic Exhibit at the Carolina Theatre of Durham!

For today – 9 days left – we are asking all 72 of our campaign backers to post the Historic Exhibit link to your facebook status. That way you can tell your friends, your friends can tell their friends, their friends can tell their friends and on and on!”

Matthew Ewald Releases Second Novel, RAGS Premieres Tonight, and Around the Horror World in Sixty Seconds on Fridays with MVP.

Whispers In The Cries by Matthew Ewald.

Welcome back for another edition of Fridays with MVP on Mutantville.com.  It’s been another busy week of post-production as the Mutantville Players have been busy with post-production in a race to get several films ready for the upcoming Nevermore Film Festival in Durham.  MVP was fortunate enough to have our slasher short film Scarecrow At Midnight play at the Nevermore Festival earlier this year and we are hoping that one or more of our new films makes the cut for next year.

In G.H.O.S.T. news – the HD conversion has been a source of many headaches during post-production – but we’re still working hard to get it all to come together.  Meanwhile in England, Martin Bowes is hard at work on the original new score for MVP’s full length Gothic horror.  The final plans for the premiere are coming together so look for an announcement from MVP soon.
MVP is hosting a night at the movies with indie cinema tonight as Kristopher Rufty screens his latest release RAGS on the Mutantville Mothership.  RAGS stars the always lovely Vanelle as a backsliding addict that sets out on a mission of revenge.  Keep watching Mutantville.com for exclusive photos and reports from the screening.

Johnny Brento’s JuJu – Black Magic

Black Magic - Jeremy Mullis's First Film Project

This week I thought I’d take the opportunity to promote an upcoming project for my friend, bandmate and fellow MVP’r, Jeremy Mullis. About 8 months ago Jeremy shared his first attempt at short film with me, shot on an extremely low res camera and loosely edited. He called it, “Black Magic.” Even with the technical limitations, I found the concept interesting and encouraged Jeremy to expand the story beyond a single character in the original and to put it into proper script format. In short, he’s done that and is ready to put the people and resource together to shoot the film.

Speaking of the high concept, here it is. A young man, seeking to become powerful & rich, obtains an ancient demonic manuscript and attempts to summon a hellish demon to do his biding.  He gets more than he’s bargaining for.

Here’s where you come in. So here are the facts as I know them. The film will require a cast of 3 actors and as many crew members as we can find to lend a hand. Two males & one female who can portray 17 – 22. The shoot should entail a single Saturday or Sunday once the locations are secure. The casting will be via individual reads either. This would be a no budget project, so there would be no pay to any participants, but you would be helping out an awesome guy who’s always been quick to help out on all of our projects.

As of now there’s no schedule as the final tweaks are still being put on the script. Jeremy hopes to shoot within the next few months. If you are interested in being a part of “Black Magic” either as an actor or a crew member, shoot Jeremy Mullis via facebook.

Hopefully, you all will have another rocking MVP week!

Spades (2010)

This week on Trailer Park Tuesday we are featuring another indie gem the sexy black comedy Spades written and directed by the multi-talented Vanelle.  Spades was conceived and shot for the Made In Charlotte Short Film Contest hosted by the Charlotte Film Community in the fall of 2010.  Spades stars the lovely and talented Jodi Essex opposite the always charming Michael Sharpe fresh off his directorial debut with Monomaniacal as a couple that loves each other so much it hurts.

Check out the full trailer for Spades below and visit the official website for Magic Tribe Pictures by clicking here.

The Thing, T Is For Tips and The Walking Dead top the charts on Mutantville Mondays!

Addy Miller in Ghost Trek. Artwork by Chris Fulton.

It was another wild and wooly weekend aboard the Mothership as we wrapped up the final reshoot for G.H.O.S.T. and recorded the last of our foley work as well as completed the final color corrections for the movie.  On top of that we made it out to the theater to see The Thing and Halloween is still two weeks away. Scarecrow At Midnight is playing at three different festivals this month and MVP will be working on the set of Robert W. Filion’s Athena with Matthew Ewald and Vanelle all month long.  Good times ahead.

This weekend saw the release of a prequel to John Carpenter’s 1982 classic - The Thing – eponymously titled The Thing.  The Mutantville Players made the trip to the theaters to check out the film and have returned with the complete rundown for you.

Martin from Attrition Interviewed by Mutantville.com

Attrition

Martin from Attrition

This week we have a special treat for you! Martin Bowes from the band Attrition talks about his experience scoring the short film Family Fiend for the Tales from Mutantville project.

For those not familiar with Attrition, they are from Coventry, England and formed in 1980. They’ve released 19 albums that you can learn more about on their website. They still write and perform music. I first saw Attrition perform in 1996 when he was touring with Sean from Eden and Sam from Projekt Records was with them as well.

We also ask Martin our patented questions to learn about what type of horror he is into.
