Metatron Files – New Project Kickoff on Johnny Brento’s JuJu

For those of you waiting to hear of a new Mutantville project, your wait is over. After spending 2011 clearing the books as it were, completing previously shot projects, holding screenings and the like, we’re back to another year of shooting projects. Among those projects is the one I’m announcing today.

The Metatron files will be MVP’s foray into the unknown universe of Dark Fantasy & Sci Fi. We’re all nerds here. Being such of course we love shows like Supernatural and The X-Files where the forces of good and evil arel ocked in pitched battle eac hand every week. We wanted to try our hand at something similar, albeit a web series. The pilot (It Begins Again), as per our usual modus operandi will be the entire season in mirco-cosum, so that it can serve as a complete story in itself.

Once more, we’ll carry the Mutant TV viewer along with us as we include behind the scenes coverage from inception to final release. The production will hold an open casting call for regional thespians for the episode set to shoot in late April/ early May 2012.

Men in Black, Weapons of Mass Destruction and scantily clad demon babes from hell. What is not to love, Mutants?!!!

You can follow the progress on Mutantville.com as well as on the official fan page, or simply check back each week for another “Making Metatron” video for vicarious film making enjoyment!

The Fly

The Fly poster

The Fly (1986)

After meeting and interviewing Charles Edward Pogue, the screen writer of the fly, I thought it would be fitting to highlight “The Fly” today! Look for that interview coming soon! We had a great conversation with him and got some writing tips for you writers out there.

I decided to delve a little deeper in the “The Fly” today and dig up some information to share with you. We’ll talk about past versions of “The Fly” as well as the more recent (if you consider 1986 recent) version. Continue Reading…

Scream 4 Screeches it’s way to Theaters this Weekend!

This week, horror fans from across the world have cause to celebrate as one of the most popular horror franchises of all time returns to the theaters for the first time in over ten years.  Scream 4 by director Wes Craven and writer Kevin Williamson returns to wreak havoc upon an unsuspecting populace.   Be sure to line up early to get your tickets to what must surely be the only true horror event of the Spring season.

It is worth noting that the Spring season has often been less than hospitable to the horror genre.  I recall a time when the entire internet was abuzz at the latest collaboration between hotshot directors Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez for a little movie called Grindhouse.  Grindhouse was released Easter weekend in 2007, everyone talked about it, and then no one went to see it.

I wouldn’t be surprised to see Scream 4 suffer the same fate.  Horror fans are lazy and would often rather review a movie that they download illegally instead of paying hard earned cash to see a movie and then bitch about it like the old days.  Ah, horror fans, what are we going to do with you?

Check back this weekend for MVP’s exclusive review of Scream 4.  Get out to the theatre and see it for yourself.  Come back and let us know what you think.

In other news, noted director Sidney Lumet passed away over the weekend.  Lumet is well known for his work on films such as Serpico, The Wiz, Twelve Angry Men, and much more.  The cinema will be a much darker place without him.

The creators of SAW, James Wan and Leigh Whannel, teamed to bring you another horror tale entitled InsidiousInsidious opened across the nation for a total box office of $27 million.  With a production budget of less than $2 million, it is safe to say that James Wan will be bringing us more movies for years to come.

This week, Mutant TV brings you the trailers for the latest horror and sci-fi offerings playing at a theater near you.  So put that Mountain Dew down, stop munching on Doritos and get your fat butt down to the theater to watch a movie.  Get out and support the movies you want to see so they keep getting made.

It’s your friend Johnny Brento bringing you the latest with the greatest in the world of Mutantville Productions. It’s very auspicious that today kicks off this weekly article because there is actually a LOT of big news.
MVP was honored to accept an invitation to screen our SCi Fi short film Respawner at the longest running Sci Fi con in the Nortth Carolina, Stellarcon 35! That’s right Mutants, we’ll be unleashing the hell of Respawner on the crowd in attendance at Stellarcon in Highpoint North Carolina, this Saturday, March 5th at 11PM. We’ll be in suite Victorian A at 11PM rocking the crowed with a series of short films, behind the scenes footage and finally Respawner until well past midnight. In addition to Respawner, we’ll be screening Devil Comes Down to warm the crowd up. The word around the Mothership is that several of the characters from the film, including the Repsawner herself might be dropping by for an in person appearance.
There will be a wide array of door prizes and this may very well be the only way to see Respawner prior to the release of our anthology DVD, Tales from Mutantville, so don’t miss it.

Until next Monday, peace out,
