American Horror Story is the best horror program on television today. It leaves The Walking Dead, True Blood and Dexter stumbling in the dust in terms of creating real horror. I’ve discussed what I think real horror is on Streeborama a few times before both in video as in my Uncanny Horror Halloween V-Log or by article as in my piece on Francisco Goya’s Saturn. You’ll have to check those out if you want to know what I mean by real horror. Or you could just watch American Horror Story instead as it utilizes a lot of those same horror elements.
The 1980′s may have been the high water mark for horror poster art. One used to be able to walk through the halls of the local video store and see a wide variety of horrific tableau’s adorning the boxes and posters promoting horror movies. In the new millennium, we are living in an era of bland posters and box art. A seemingly endless parade of floating heads and faces stare back at us from what now passes for movie posters. Where artists once strived to tell a story with a single image – now these “designers” seek to inundate us with the who’s who of actors in the film.
Poster art is truly a lost art form. That’s why it always thrills me to see the Japanese designs for Western films. They are simply the best produced poster works on the planet. Let’s celebrate this lost art form by taking a peek at a few fantastic designs from the land of the rising sun.

This week – Streebo’s B-movie poster watch takes a look at the classic poster art for the “based on a atrue story” horror film that shocked the nation in the late Seventies – The Amityville Horror! This spooky poster features the classic evil house taking up the entirety of the composition – with the classic tag line screaming down the middle of the poster, “for God’s sake, get out!” This simple design does it’s job well by creating a tone of dread by using the imposing image of the house juxtaposed against the urgency of the tagline. If you like what you see – this poster can be yours! Follow the link below to eBay and place your bid now!
This week on Streebo’s Mid-week B-Movie Poster Watch – we feature an A list movie with B-movie roots! It’s johnathan Demme’s masterpiece – Silence of the Lambs! This is the variation of the classic poster art – featuring Anthony Hopkins as Dr. Hannibal Lecter. Check it out. If you like what you see – go buy it on eBay!
I use eBay to track down rare, exciting, cheesy or just plain bad posters from time to time. I rarely buy anything – but I enjoy watching them. I’ve decided to share a few of these images with you. Today’s watched poster is the atrocious The Night of Bloody Horror one-sheet! I just love how some designer somewhere thought that all this poster needed was a skull face wearing a Tina Turner wig – and voila! Instant TERROR!!!
From eBay: You will enjoy this 11″ x 17″ Style B print featuring 1969 The Night of Bloody Horror . Perfect for your home or office! Also makes a great gift.
