The Seventh Curse movie poster
As we move closer to Chinese New Year, I thought we’d focus on the classic Chinese horror movie, The Seventh Curse or Yuan Zhen-Xia yu Wei Si-Li (it’s Chinese title). This film stars a few people that are pretty much household names (well at least to Hong Kong cinema fans like us here at Mutantville). It stars Maggie Cheung which you will remember from Police Story, Police Story 2 and Supercop with Jackie Chan. It also stars Chow Yun Fat who has stared in many films such as Confucius, Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, Bulletproof Monk, The Replacement Killers, God of Killers, etc… The movie also stars Ken Boyle, Siu-hou Chin, Yuen Chor, Joyce Godenzi and Shu-yuan Hsu. The Seventh Curse was directed by Ngai Kai Lam. The screenplay was written by Jing Wong, who has 156 writing credits on IMDB including Legend of the Red Dragon with Jet Li, God of Gamblers with Chow Yun Fat, City Hunter with Jackie Chan, Last Hero in China which is another Jet Li film which he also directed with Yuen Woo-ping (How cool is that?). This film was released in 1986.

Christine Movie Poster
In honor of New Year’s Eve, I thought I’d do a post on “Christine.”
It was directed by John Carpenter and written by Stephen King. Bill Phillips wrote the screenplay. “Christine” stars Keith Gordon which you may also remember from “Back to School” with Danny Elfman in Oingo Boingo (I’m starting a 5 degrees of Danny Elfman game!). Now to tie this back into modern horror, he has directed 10 episodes of “Dexter.” The film also stars John Stockwell, Alexandra Paul, Robert Prosky, Harry Dean Stanton and David Spielberg.
Christine begins in 1957 in Detroit with Christine on the assembly line. We see that Christine is a bright red Plymouth Fury. She doesn’t even wait to be out of the factory before she starts hurting people. 20 years later we meet our main character, Arnold Cunningham (no relation to Ritchie Cunningham). Of course he’s kind of nerdy and doesn’t have many friends. Arnold (aka Arnie…we’re friends so we can call him that) starts to fix a broken down Christine. He stores her at a local garage to restore her. Arnie begins to change as he works on the Fury. His girlfriend and best friend decide to destroy the car on…wait for it…New Year’s Eve (see how I tied the whole New Year’s thing in? hehe).

Attack The Block (2011)
All year long I’ve been hearing murmurs that “horror is dead.” I never could quite understand this sentiment because everywhere I looked, I saw great horror. It didn’t matter if it was in the form of independent films like Junker or Deviling or in comics like Crossed or television shows like The Walking Dead and American Horror Story, I was seeing great horror everywhere I looked. Even in the theaters we had some really fun and imaginative offerings like Troll Hunter, Insidious and Hobo With A Shotgun.
Even though remakes petered out this year in terms of box office returns, I rather enjoyed the last few that came out like Fright Night (2011), Night of the Demons and Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark (2010). They were solid attempts to make entertaining films and in the case of The Thing (2011) prequel was a thoughtful attempt to pay homage to one of the greatest remakes of all time.
Nevertheless there were plenty of reasons outside of the mainstream to enjoy horror this year and in case you didn’t hear about them all – we’ve decided to round up quite a few for you. Without further ado we give you Streeborama’s Top Ten Reasons Horror Is Alive and Well in 2011.

Halloween III (1982)
The San Diego Reader apparently has the Collector’s Corner hookup because they periodically post alternate and rejected versions of movie one sheets. This week – they have shared a horror film lover’s delight with an alternate design for the Halloween III Season of the Witch one sheet.
Normally we like to post links to auctions where rabid collectors like ourselves can bid on the items in question. Unfortunately this particular one sheet is so rare that you will most likely never see it for sale – anywhere. But that’s the joy of collecting isn’t it? Trying to find that impossible to find item makes life worth living. Well now Halloween III fans have a nice Holy Grail they can chase after. Check it out after the leap!

Kathy Butler Sandvoss and Scott Thomas star in G.H.O.S.T. from Mutantville Productions.
Welcome back to another edition of Mutantville Mondays here on Mutantville.com! The Mutantville Players had another productive weekend of editing and working on promotional planning. As of this writing, we’re about three weeks deep into the final cut of G.H.O.S.T. and it’s coming along quite nicely. We’re anticipating another week or two of steady editing and the movie will be ready for the score and final sound design to be put in place.

Evil Dead Poster
Does this match your list of best horror movies?
As Halloween approaches, I thought that instead of focusing on one film on Classic Corner, why not post this horror movie list. If you are a long time follower of the Mutantville blog, you’ll notice that Streebo posted this list from IMDB’s Horror Forum way back in September, 2009. So keep that in mind that this is not a list of the best new horror movies, it’s a best of all time horror movie list.
If there is a horror film you think should be on the list and its not, comment below. To make this a little more visually stimulating, I will put some horror movie posters and pics throughout the list.
1) Dracula (1931) 32 worthy votes X 100%= 32 points
2) The Evil Dead (1981) 29 worthy votes X 96.67%= 28.033 points
3) Carrie (1976) 28 worthy votes X 100%= 28 points
