Greetings and Happy Easter! It’s time once again to share more holiday horror. As you may have noticed on holidays, I tend to focus on holiday related movies instead of films that may actually be classics. Night of the Lepus falls into this category.
This week…we focus on a film with killer rabbits. Is there anything more terrifying? A bunny hopping towards you with big floppy ears and a little cotton tail (I know…their tails aren’t actually cotton). Well this film may change your mind. Night of the Lepus stars Janet Leigh, Stuart Whitman, Rory Calhoun, and DeForest Kelley. It was filmed with actual domestic rabbits as well as people in rabbit suits. It was released in 1972 and was based on the book The Year of the Angry Rabbit. Continue Reading…

You are in luck, Brad Dourif will be at the Mad Monster Party in Charlotte, NC this March. If that doesn’t make you happy then you may not be familiar with Brad Dourif. Stay tuned for the next few minutes and you will be more familiar. I’m going to dive in and out of horror since Mr. Dourif does all types of films. So lets jump in the way back machine and go back to 1975. There was a movie that most of us have either seen or heard about called One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest. I wasn’t able to see this in the theater because it would have been over my head at one year old. Brad Dourif played Billy Bibbit along side some incredible actors including Jack Nicholson, Christopher Lloyd, Danny DeVito, Michael Berryman (also appearing at The Mad Monster Party) and Vincent Schiavelli. For his role, Mr. Dourif earned the Golden Globe for Best Actor Debut and a British Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor. He was also nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor. One interesting fact is that it was not his debut. He was in a low budget film called “Split” (which wasn’t released) and in W.W. and the Dixie Dancekings. His part was cut out of the film though.
Deviling director Michael Sharpe with actor Catherine Trail of Monomaniacal.
Welcome back to another edition of Scary Movie Saturday here at Mutantville.com. This week, we’re featuring the latest work from our horror filmmaking cohort in crime – the very talented Michael Sharpe. Well you won’t have to wait for the Nevermore Film Festival to see Deviling when you can watch it right here!
So what are you waiting for? Indie horror is alive and well and you can watch Deviling streaming online – right now – for free! It’s Deviling on Scary Movie Saturday!
Chinese New Year is this Monday, so we focus on A Chinese Ghost Story or Sien nui yau wan this week. A Chinese Ghost Story was directed by Siu-Tung Ching and stars Leslie Cheung, Joey Wang, Ma Wu and Elvis Tsui. You may notice that Elvis Tsui was in last week’s focus The Seventh Curse. He’s a busy guy…he’s been in 120 films and TV series. The original novel for A Chinese Ghost Story was written by Songling Pu and was adapted for screen by Gai Chi Yuen, who is also known for The Legend of Drunken Master with Jackie Chan and Once Upon a Time in China with Jet Li.
This week on the Indie Filmmaker Spotlight we are featuring a panel from ConCarolinas 2011. The Mutantville Players were honored to be a part of a panel that featured not only legendary scream queen Brinke Stevens, but local filmmakers such as Christine Parker, Michael Ray Williams, Robert W. Filion, and Jaysen Buterin of Mad Ones Films. Topics discussed included everything from filmmaking to networking to how to promote in the digital age. We had some technical difficulties which delayed this video in post but we decided to go ahead and share it with you all anyway.
Hot Pink Jesus Act III: Have Faith Will Travel from Mad Ones Films
This week on Trailer Park Tuesday – Hot Pink Jesus is here to save us all with the trailer to his latest cinematic effort. Yes, we’re talking about the latest titanic celluloid outing from the infamous Mad Ones Films of Greensboro North Carolina - Hot Pink Jesus Act III: Have Faith, Will Travel. The Mad Ones films play like the a nightmarish blend of Tarantino and Rodriguez from an alternate taco-filled reality. If you’re into grindhouse, grease and tacos – then Hot Pink Jesus is the cinematic savoiur that you’re looking for.
Don’t take my word for it – let’ hear what the Mad Ones of the wasteland have to say about it:
A gringo whose cozy little job with the Mexican mob went awry, a failed actor and dejected athlete living in the past, a stripping diva with criminal delusions of grandeur, and a prodigal son with something to prove. Unbeknownst to them, they’re all after the same get-rich-quick fix. However, the one man standing in their way doesn’t feel like letting go of his lucky streak just quite yet.
Enter Faith. When a disturbing revelation leads to a life-changing decision, Faith suddenly finds herself plunged headfirst into a shady world of booze, bullets, extortion, larceny and lawn darts. Her only chance for survival is being at the wrong place at the right time because in a world gone mad, bad and dangerous to know, sometimes the only thing that can save you is a little faith.
“I have always had different aspects to my personality. I think I’m a long-term pessimist and a short-term optimist. I do feel a great darkness about humanity. But — simultaneously and contradictorily — I also feel that life can be pretty fabulous. I should also express some of that in my work; I don’t want to limit myself as a filmmaker. I want to be true to the parameters of all films. They should create a mood and tingle you emotionally. That is what I’m after. I want the audience to experience some feeling. I want them to know they’re alive.” ~~John Carpenter
Be sure to check back to Mutantville.com this Friday when we release our exclusive interview with John Carpenter. You can watch it free online right here on Mutantville.com.
