Devil’s Crossing A Zombie Western Comes to DVD!

DEVIL’S CROSSING DVD HITS THE STREETS!!!

The much anticipated zombie western from writer/director James Ryan Gary – Devil’s Crossing – has come to DVD in the form of an unrated director’s cut! Devil’s Crossing hit the streets this past week on Tuesday August 10th and stars Michael Sharpe (of Split, Scarecrow At Midnight & Monomaniacal), Patrick Keenan (of Zombie Kings, Never Feed The Troll & Remnants) and Michael Ruff (of Night Feeders, Never Feed The Troll, & Cold Storage) star in a supernaturally charged western about a little town that exists on the edge of hell.

Final Destination 5 Dies at B.O. and Freddy Krueger slashes up Mortal Kombat on Mutantville Mondays!

We had a busy weekend aboard the Mutantville Mothership this weekend. We moved several projects through various stages of production and had a blast doing it. We’re gearing up to get Tales From Mutantville onto DVD and Blu Ray as well as putting the final touches on G.H.O.S.T. to get it ready for the Fall. Lots of fun things are coming down the pipe for MVP and we thank you all for being a part of it!

FINAL DESTINATION 5 STALLS AT BOX OFFICE GATES!!!

The horror season is off to a slow start as Final Destination 5 stalls at the box office gates this weekend with a lowly take of $18 million.  Still, $18 million is better than the $11 million that Grindhouse gained during it’s entire theatrical run so perhaps third place at the box office is not necessarily so bad.  The movie is out late in the Summer season but early enough in the fall season to still be lurking in theaters and dollar theaters come Halloween.  This Halloween season is packed as each weekend becomes a battleground for the horror top spot with Fright Night coming this week, followed by Red State, Apollo 18, Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark and Paranormal Activity 3 over the coming months.

The New Grindhouse Era

From horror-movies.ca:

Back in 2007. Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino teamed up to make a two part feature film experience appropriately titled Grindhouse. Each director provided their own feature length film in the grindhouse cinema tradition including bad edits, missing reels, and noticeable film grain. It was a throwback film designed to not only be an enjoyable time at the movies, but to recall a point in history when the rejected films of society were celebrated in dollar theaters in big cities around the country. These films usually consisted of taboo subject matter including large amounts of sex, violence, and drug use and in some cases, all of those. This was a form of entertainment that a large portion of society wanted to see, but Hollywood was just not producing at the time. When Grindhouse came out in 2007, it inadvertently opened the flood gates to a style of filmmaking that would invoke a new renaissance of stylistic qualities.

ABOMINATIONS Casting This Weekend!

ABOMINATIONS

Screenplay by: Chad Law
Producer: Carolina Filmworks & Image Impact Group
Director: Robert W. Filion

Tagline: What is the Boogeyman afraid of?

Synopsis: After facing the gruesomeness of war in the Middle East, a weary and jaded Val Worthington returns home to his sister Alex. Despite much protest, Alex ropes Val into camping in the mountains for the weekend with her and her college friends. Instead of finding fun and adventure, the group stumbles upon something so ghastly it would give the Boogeyman nightmares.

Carolina Filmworks and Image Impact Group are currently seeking professional and experienced actors for a trailer for the upcoming Feature film ABOMINATIONS. The trailer will be used to secure funds for the project. While there are several roles available for the feature we are only casting three roles at this time. Please note that because this is an investor trailer, work is on a volunteer basis. However it is our hope that in casting the trailer we will also have our leads cast!

Only submit if you fit the breakdowns below. Anyone not fitting descriptions below will not be considered. Note: these are the three lead characters.

David Arkem: Male/30+/ 6’7”(will consider over 6’3”)/Massive but not overweight/Gruff voice/Sadistic/Grizzly/Intimidating…our Boogeyman. (Think Kane Hodder)

Alex Worthington: Female/22 Younger sister of Val. Caring and nurturing she worries about her brother’s state of mind post war. All American girl next-door type, unassuming but more than meets the eye.

Val Worthington: Male/25 War torn soul that returns home somewhat detached from the life he once loved. Loyal but cynical. Would prefer to be left alone.

The location for auditions is not yet set and will most likely be February 13th.

Please follow submission directions to be considered:

LOCAL HIRES ONLY! (Charlotte, NC and surrounding areas)

Again, only submit if you fit the above breakdown.

Copy and Paste Head shot and Resume into email. No attachments. You may include links to video clips.

Review: WHERE THE WILD THINGS ARE

From We Are Movie Geeks: Maurice Sendak’s Where the Wild Things Are is a classic amongst children’s books, not so much due to mere entertainment value, though it has that, but because of how much it means to children whose parents have read it to them. Children empathize with Max, a boy whose mother sends him to his room after he acts out his more aggressive side, a boy who finds solace in a mystical world he creates where monsters roam and wild rumpuses abound. To say Sendak’s story is magical to children is putting it lightly, and saying Spike Jonze’s feature film adaptation is commendable in regards to Sendak’s story is as much of an understatement as you can muster.

WHERE THE WILD THINGS ARE is a master work. It tells its intricate and nuanced story with grace and care that only a parent can give a child, and its characters come to life in startlingly exquisite detail. More than just a coming of age story, the narrative Jonze has expanded from the original book takes the themes Sendak created and flashes them in an immense presence. He does all this without ever allowing the film to feel forced or less than genuine. Such a feature film adaptation of a children’s book could have easily been just that. Jonze, to his credit, is anything but a bogus filmmaker. His visions come across on screen every time he steps behind the camera, and, with WHERE THE WILD THINGS ARE, he truly captures the feeling within all children that sometimes it is easier to be the wild thing than the conformed.
