Make a Jib

What makes those boom up and boom down shots look so good? A jib! That’s right. While filming our most recent 3 short films for “Tales from Mutantville,” we rented a jib and used it for all three. One word for having a jib on location would be…Awesome! It really makes your shots fluid and gives you lots of options. But once I discovered how much they cost I had one question…”How do I make a jib?”

If you’re like us you may not be able to drop $3000 or much more on a jib, so I did some research to find some more affordable methods of making a jib. These videos below will help you make a jib. Some are too flimsy to use with big cameras but you can make a jib that will support a smaller camera or a digital SLR.

Mark Apsolon shows How to Build Barndoors on Worklights

This is a cool video on……You guessed it! Mark Apsolon shows how to build barndoors on worklights. As you know, Guerrilla filmmakers use worklights all the time for lighting and this should help you have more control of your light. This would work great for green screen work. Mark Apsolon has lots of cool videos on Youtube.
