If you’ll note on most of Streebo’s video’s as well as my own modest video contributions to Mutant TV, which of course is located at Youtube.com/mutantvilleplayers, if we’re not in front of some theater movie poster marquee, we’re snug in our home media vestibules to expose the awesomeness of horror movies or whatever we are watching at the moment.
Hauled Up to the New Space
From time to time the movies or magazines behind us change to match the current topic. In my case, the most recent change was less than sublte. The Mutantville Mothership VHS archive simply outgrew the space it was stored in. To prevent the closure of the BlockBuster video across the street from where I type this article presently from being a complete loss, I capitalized and purchase some of their media racks at some seriously low, low prices.
While this sort of an upgrade has been needed for a long, long time at Brentoville, the results surprised even me. Each rack holds approximately 936 DVD sized items. Once everything is hauled into the new space, VHS will occupy one rack with DVD media on the other. I should be able to get a handle on exactly how many VHS, DVD & Games I own. Knowing that funny little number is a part of the fun of collecting so I’m looking forward to discovering it.
Liam Likes The New Video Store Upstairs
Over the next several days I’ll be adding photos to this article to share the evolution of my new office/creatives pace/ video backdrop/ media library in the newly refurbished upstairs office in my home. Stay tuned.
Jet Eller’s latest suspense/thriller Never Feed The Troll comes to Scary Movie Saturday. Jet Eller is a good friend of MVP and an honorary Mutantville Player and one of the premiere indie filmmakers in the Charlotte area. His second horror film Night Feeders came to the attention of the Mutantville Players years ago and we have all been fast friends ever since.
This past Fall, MVP was honored to attend the premiere of Never Feed The Troll at the University of North Carolina Charlotte. What we saw was a multi-layered suspense thriller with realistic and sympathetic characters that actually made the audience care about what happened to them. At the post-screening Q&A session, Jet revealed that he got the idea for Never Feed The Troll from a story in the news.
Linda has a past she’d rather forget, but an online intruder decides he wants things differently and imposes a night of terror on her.
It’s an independent film from a North Carolinian filmmaker. It’s only $2.99 to watch online. It’s only a click away. It’s Scary Movie Saturday.

Rob Zombie is in Britain for his first UK tour since the 1990s. Empire was at the awesome Manchester gig (it was, as the man himself says “a lovely party”!) so we thought we’d be remiss not to see what we could find out about Zombie’s upcoming horror opus The Lords of Salem.
Shooting starts, if all goes to plan, on April 18th, as soon as he gets home from the tour. He’ll then go back out on the rock festival circuit for the summer, edit in the autumn, and expects a release in early 2012.
The long awaited and much anticipated zombie/western from writer/director James Ryan Gary – Devil’s Crossing – is playing this Friday Feb.18th at 7:30pm at the Silver Spur Saloon & Cafe in Love Valley. Devil’s Crossing stars Michael Sharpe (of Scarecrow At Midnight and Knowing), Patrick Keenan, Michael Ruff and many of our friends from the Charlotte Film Community. Devil’s Crossing tells the story of a stranger that finds himself caught between a small town and a horde of devilish zombies. What’s not to love?
Tickets are $5 in advance and $10 at the door. For more information, please visit the official website for Devil’s Crossing by clicking here. For ticket information, please visit the Showclix site by clicking here.
Rejoice, Mutantville Players for the time is almost upon us! Last October, MVP set out to film not one – but three new short films for the Tales From Mutantville collection. Next week, the first installment will debut at the Twelfth Annual Nevermore Film Festival.
Scarecrow at Midnightwill premiere on Saturday the 19th at 12pm during the short film block entitled “When the Stars Begin to Fall.” Also playing at Nevermore during the same film block is Robert W. Filion’s (D.P. on Scarecrow At Midnight) award winning short See The Dead. Have your cameras ready as the filmmakers will be involved in a Q&A session following the screenings.
The writer and director of Scarecrow At Midnight, J.T.McRoberts, stated that “I’m thrilled that Scarecrow At Midnight was accepted into the Nevermore Film Festival. I consider myself a “Retro Regular” and attend shows at the Carolina Theatre in Durham all the time. The Nevermore Film Festival has always been the premiere horror festival in North Carolina and to have our movie make it into the Festival is a real dream come true.”
The Mutantville Players will be on hand to enjoy the sights and sounds of the festival throughout the weekend. On Saturday, MVP is gathering together to go see Friday the 13th at 2:10pm, followed by The Silence of the Lambs at 4:20pm, then we’ll grab sushi in town and make it back by 8:10pm for El Monstro Del Mar and after all of that, we’ll top off the night by watching the alien abduction flick Unaware at 11:01pm!
The latest order for Mutantville.com t-shirts went out today which included the classic G.H.O.S.T. shirt as well as the new designs for Scarecrow At Midnight and Devil Comes Down. They will be available for pick up at the Nevermore Film Festival from your favorite Mutantville Player.
In CFC local news, our good friends at Quiet No More Pictures wrapped their post-apocalyptic faith based film My Name Is Paul over the weekend. Congratulations to director Trey Ore and his talented cast. MVP is very eager to see the final product!
We’re in for a rollicking good time next weekend! Make sure you come along for the ride by ordering your tickets for the Nevermore Film Festival now! You can visit the official website for the Nevermore Film Festival by clicking here.

This week on the Collector’s Corner, we’re watching a rare and wild poster from Turkey! It doesn’t get any wierder and wilder than the original video nasty. That’s right – we’re talking about the Evil Dead!!! So listen up you primitive screwheads! If you’re a crazy collector like me – and I know you are – then pop on over to eBay and put this bad boy on your watch list before it’s gone. Nothing says “horror fan” like Evil Dead and nothing is cooler than having a bizarro alternative print from another country and that includes this Turkish delight. Check it out at the link below:
EDIT: My good friend Jon Kitley at Kitley’s Krypt notified me that this is not even a Turkish poster – it’s actually Thai! That makes this poster even wilder. Check out Kitley’s Krypt here.

Kenny is allowing the Mutantville Players to film our short Scarecrow At Midnight at his house this October.

UK filmmaker, Tom Young recently posted an announcement on his blog about the completion of his long Lynchian horror short – Be There In Ten:
It’s been a long time in the making for a short but Be There In Ten is finally done. I’ve cut a second, slightly longer trailer which is below – if you’re interested in getting a copy of the full movie you can contact me by email (details on my biog page); I’ll also post any details of screenings etc. here in the meantime. Depending how things turn out we may eventually post it on the web in any case, so watch this space.
The film is sort of a cross between a relationship drama and a horror, something I’ve tried to capture in the trailer. It clocks in at around 14 minutes and features grainy Super-8 footage shot around Southbank and Hyde Park, several ghosts, some Steadicam shots made on a dark, rainy night in Chiswick, plus a couple of star turns from the two leads, Sarah Winter and James Powell.
The music at the start of the trailer is the actual music used in the credits of the film (a more extended version of which I posted previously).
