The Slayer (1982) comes to Slasher Movie Saturday!

In honor of this weekend’s screening at Scarecrow at Midnight at the Killuride film festival at Myrtle Beach we’ve decided to feature a rare slasher gem from the golden age of slashers – the 80′s. This week it’s the little known The Slayer (1982) featuring a killer that would give Freddy Krueger a run for his money. I mention Craven’s creation for a reason because during the time period that Craven’s script for A Nightmare On Elm Street made the rounds through every studio in Hollywood – it was rejected by a certain studio which then promptly turned around and commissioned a script with elements lifted directly from Craven’s script. The tale would eventually be told as A Nightmare On Elm Street finally made it to the screen in 1984 thanks to New Line Cinema and The Slayer faded into little known obscurity.

Oscars Forgotten as MVP Playa Awards Announced.

Just in time for the Academy Awards, it’s the MVP Playa Awards! Last night, Streebo finished his last review of the mainstream horror releases of 2010 when he went to see Darren Aronofsky’s Black Swan. Mutantville.com has tallied the votes and now we are ready to present this year’s MVP Playas Awards.

Streebo began reviewing all the major mainstream horror releases during their theatrical run back in 2004 on the IMDb Horror Board in the topic: Diagnosing the Problems and Celebrating Modern Horror. Streebo’s First double feature review was a back to back viewing of Saw and The Grudge. The topic was eventually locked on the IMDb due to exceeding the allowed number of responses which at one point numbered almost 800 in total.

Streebo has kept the tradition alive since 2007 when he changed the title to Celebrating Modern Horror and began posting v-log reviews as opposed to written essays. He spent all of last year watching the latest releases and reviewing them for you and today we are proud to announce the winners of 2010′s MVP Playas Award.

A Nightmare On Elm Street (2010) Review by Streebo.

“NEVER SLEEP AGAIN: THE ELM STREET LEGACY” DVD art/details

From Fangoria.com: DVD content information as well as cover art for the supersized NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET documentary NEVER SLEEP AGAIN: THE ELM STREET LEGACY have been revealed, and you can see them after the jump. The two-disc set will street May 4, just in time to tie in with the NIGHTMARE remake.

CAV Distributing sent along the info on the double-DVD package, which will contain the four-hour NEVER SLEEP AGAIN and another four hours of bonus material. The documentary, directed by Daniel Farrands and Andrew Kasch, written by Thommy Huston and hosted by franchise star Heather Langenkamp (pictured above with Wes Craven), will explore all eight movies from Craven’s original NIGHTMARE through FREDDY VS. JASON, featuring new interviews with cast and filmmakers and never-before-seen behind-the-scenes footage, deleted scenes, FX tests, photos, production and promotional art, publicity material, etc.
