A Secret 35mm Screening kicks off October Screams!

Kicking off the series on October 11th we are going retro for a very special SECRET 35mm screening! We are keeping the film title under wraps for fear some of you will look at the trailer or a synopsis (which will simply give away way too much about this great film) but we are sure that if you trust us and attend the screening you will be impressed.

Week two brings Hausu to the cinema!

The following week (October 18th) BAFS stays retro as the Japanese horror classic HAUSU (House) hits the big screen in 35mm. How do you describe Nobuhiko Obayashi’s 1977 movie? A psychedelic ghost tale? A stream-of-consciousness bedtime story? An episode of Scooby Doo as directed by Dario Argento? Any of the above will do for this hallucinatory head-trip about a schoolgirl who travels with six classmates to her ailing aunt’s creaky country home only to come face to face with evil spirits, bloodthirsty pianos, and a demonic housecat. Too absurd to be genuinely terrifying, yet too nightmarish to be merely comic, House looks like it was beamed to Earth from another planet. Don’t miss this astonishing cult favorite, fashioned after the eccentric musings of the director’s eleven-year-old daughter.

The highly anticipated V/H/S comes to BAFS!

October 25th brings V/H/S, the most anticipated horror film of 2012. When a group of petty criminals is hired by a mysterious party to retrieve a rare piece of found footage from a rundown house in the middle of nowhere, they soon realize that the job isn’t going to be as easy as they thought. In the living room, a lifeless body holds court before a hub of old television sets, surrounded by stacks upon stacks of VHS tapes. As they search for their target, they’re treated to a seemingly endless number of horrifying videos, each stranger than the last. Bringing together some of today’s top filmmakers, this wickedly conceived horror anthology takes the viewer through a gauntlet of suspense, terror, shock, and downright brutality—instantly distinguishing itself from a sea of lackluster found-footage horror flicks. The diverse and deviously creative minds behind V/H/S shatter any preconceived notions about the genre, making it feel inventive and captivating once again.

A Little Bit Zombie closes out the month of October Screams!

Our final film in the series, A Little Bit Zombie, screens on Monday, October 29th. A Little Bit Zombie brings an interesting twist to the classic living-dead flick. Infected by a virus, a mild-mannered HR manager attempts to fulfill his overwhelming desire for brains while trying to keep it together so as not to incur the wrath of his bridezilla-to-be. A Little Bit Zombie has pulled in 10 awards including Best Feature Film at the Canadian Film Festival and Best Feature Film, Best Comedy Film and Best Zombie Film at the Fright Night Film Festival in Kentucky.

All films in the October Screams series are presented at Carolina Cinemas Crownpoint 12, 9630 Monroe Rd, Charlotte. Screenings are Thursday nights except for the final film, which screens on a Monday. Tickets are $5 for Charlotte Film Society members (annual memberships are $10 and are available at each BAFS movie) and $8 for non-members.
