Nightbreed Cabal Cut revealed at Mad Monster Party 2012!

Nightbreed: Cabal Cut revealed at Mad Monster Party 2012.

CHARLOTTE, NC — Admist a weekend that saw Lo Pan rise from the dead surrounded by a bevy of gyrating half naked women, and everything from Doctor Scream’s Midnight Spookshow Revival to a Film Festival comprised of forty films and a guest list comprised of everyone from Ace Frehley to Brad Dourif and Rutger Hauer – the highlight of the convention for many fans was the special one time only screening of Clive Barker’s Nightbreed: Cabal Cut.

Since many fans – myself included – couldn’t make it to the show we have an update for you that will fill you in on how it all went. MVP was busy with the film festival through the entire runtime of Nightbreed: Cabal Cut and could not see the movie. Correspondent Roy Batty was on hand and witnessed everything that Cabal had to offer.

“I’m proud to say that I attended the Mad Monster Party screening. What a pleasure to see this version! And with Craig Sheffer, Anne Bobby, and the two guys responsible for the incredible amount of work that went into this ‘Cabal Cut’ all in attendance. This cut is about 55 minutes longer, and to say that it’s a completely different film is a true understatement. Honestly the last hour is almost COMPLETELY new. I believe it was stated that in fact only 2 minutes of the last hour is from the theatrical cut. Alot of the new footage was pretty rough, but watchable. Danny Elfman’s full score was impressively weaved into the new footage. Doug Bradley now voices Dirk, Anne Bobby has a musical number, and TONS of new scenes with the creatures. Clive’s vision for this film was truly epic. The ‘slasher film’ tone of the theatrical cut was not at all his intention.

It was made very clear that they want Nightbreed to be released on Blu Ray, hopefully with at least SOME of this new footage included. The financials required to restore the footage make this more than just a simple release, but if enough people email Morgan Creek, it can happen. The two filmmakers really stressed how important it would be if we all would send kind requests to MC stating we want to buy Nightbreed. If enough people speak up, Morgan Creek will have no choice but to sell it to us. It was also stated that Morgan Creek has searched it’s ‘vaults’ for the original film masters of this footage, but have yet to find it. But it’s strongly believed that it exists, and hoped to one day be found.

“Look for a website ‘Occupy Midian’ to soon open, where the cause to get this great film released on Blu Ray/DVD will be championed. Anne Bobby came up with the name 😉 Can’t say enough great things about all four in attendance, just incredibly kind and gracious people. Anne Bobby was especially amazing, you can’t help but instantly fall in love with her. At one point she even sang a song for Clive Barker. Even after all this time her passion for ‘Nightbreed’ is electric. Craig confirmed that he has always liked the theatrical cut, but has truly fallen in love with this more epic, character-oriented ‘Cabal Cut’. For those who were there, this whole experience was beyond a treat. Lots of wonderful stories were shared, including how they got Doug Bradley to attend the recent dubbing session… they basically kidnapped him from a lecture he was giving at a university in the UK and took him to the pub! ;)”
