2001: A Space Odyssey

Thank Muticia it’s Friday!!! Welcome back to another edition of Fridays with MVP on Mutantville.com. We survived the holiday slump and are ready and rearing to get back into action with the upcoming Mad Monster Party and the MMP Film Festival 2013. The entries this year have been stellar and should make for a fun event. MVP will be heading back to the set soon to shoot a short promo for the Mad Monster Party – starring none other than Muticia the Movie Goddess. Horror fans – buy your tickets for the show now. Sure, Bruce Campbell is the big headliner – but we all know that the fans really want to meet Muticia in the flesh! Meet us at the Blake Hotel in March to make it all happen.

Horror hit #1 at the box office over the weekend with the release of the direct TCM sequel – Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3D getting the genre off to a good start in 2013. The Mutantville Players plan to get out to see the movie over the weekend – and if everything proceeds according to plan we will review it for you on an upcoming episode of MVP Mutant Radio.

The date is January 11, 2013 and our goal for today is simple: make it through the work day so we can head to Durham tonight for the Retro Classics screening of Planet of the Apes and 2001: A Space Odyssey – both in 35mm (EDITOR’s NOTE: The 35mm print of 2001: A Space Odyssey was delayed by Warner Bros and will be replaced by a digital screening). The MVP faithful will remember that we’ve mentioned both films in the past as being two of the greatest science fiction films ever made with 2001: A Space Odyssey taking the number two spot – only behind Star Wars: A New Hope.

The grease fiends from Exploited Cinema joined us on MVP Mutant Radio to talk about Panos Cosmatos’ Beyond the Black Rainbow this week and the show is already live! Check it out to get your greasy movie fix – and then pop on over to Exploited Cinema at Exploitedcinema.blogspot.com to check out the upcoming Cronenberg episode.

The clock is ticking and we have to make it through a handful of hours before we point our noses East and head toward the Triangle area for a double feature SF movie madness tonight! We hope to see you there!
