Is Geo a Vampire?

Count Von Count

Count Von Count

Greetings Mutantville! I’ve been called a vampire several times over the years (light skin, seen mainly at night, etc…) In light of my bad reaction to the sun over the weekend, I’ve decided to go with the flow and do a post featuring vampires. In my defense, I’m not a fan of blood so that should be proof that I’m not…but…who knows? Oogity Boogity! This will not be an in depth history of vampires but I’ll touch on some movies I liked and different types of vampires. So check out some cool vampire films and trailers!

I think my first brush with vampires started at an early age…Count Von Count from Sesame Street. He is different from most vampires we see today because he was made of clothe and loved to count. As far as I know, no other vampires are like this.

After the jump, find out what vampire movies I saw next!

The next place I remember vampires is on Scooby Doo and other cartoons. After that, I don’t really remember anything vampire related until high school. I remember “Once Bitten” with Jim Carrey and Lauren Hutton. With that one you had the sultry vampire that has to feed on a virgin to stay young looking.

Here is a clip from “Once Bitten” …feel the 80’sness!

In high school I remember seeing “Bram Stoker’s Dracula” in the theater with Gary Oldman, Winona Ryder and Keanu Reeves. I’m still a fan of this film. I like the way it was shot because it was very stylized and Gary Oldman is an awesome actor! This film shows vampires as romantic shape shifters that are powerful. It seems this is the way most people like to think of vampires. You don’t see them portrayed as animal-like very often. I believe this is the way most people like to think of vampires.

Here is the trailer for Dracula!

The next vampire movie I remember seeing in college was “Interview with a Vampire.” Again, romantic vampires. This movie had an all star cast including: Brad Pitt, Kirsten Dunst, Tom Cruise, Christian Slater, Antonio Banderas and many others. We also see that Brad Pitt’s character is depressed and doesn’t want to be a vampire.

Next movies I remember are the Blade movies. Blade was a little different. It didn’t make the vampires romantic characters that you were drawn to and maybe want to be a vampire as well. The vampires in Blade were bad guys that viewed humans as food only. Tom Cruise’s character, Lestat, did this as well. The blade movies were more action with horror elements than some of the previous vampire films.
Here are a couple of Blade Trailers:

Blade 2

Blade Trinity

One movie that shows vampires as monsters that prey on humans and have no mercy is “30 Days of Night.” Here the vampires find a town in Alaska that doesn’t have sunlight for 30 days (hence the name). These vampires are more animal like and don’t have the sexy fangs of most vampires. They have sharp teeth for tearing into humans. They are more savage and attack people as opposed to seducing them and then biting them.

30 Days of Night trailer:

I liked the vampires on 30 Days of Night. They were not sympathetic, but I think they would probably travel around in small bands or tribes to give them more advantages.

You’ll notice that I didn’t mention Twilight or Trueblood…well…I don’t have cable and don’t really have any desire to watch Twilight. Maybe I’m really missing out. I guess I could rent a season of Trueblood to see.

What is your favorite kind of vampire? Which vampire film do you like the best?
