The Horrors of Stephen King, Escapism and G.H.O.S.T. on Fridays With MVP.

Welcome back to another edition of Fridays With MVP!  There’s so much going on that it’s hard to figure out where to begin.  There are more horror films hitting theaters this weekend, Turner Classic Movies has posted their Halloween schedule and The Carolina Theatre is gearing up for the Escapism Festival.

TRANSMISSIONS FROM THE MOTHERSHIP!!!

Halloween is just around the corner and we’re working hard to put the finishing touches on both G.H.O.S.T. and the Tales From Mutantville project.  Plans are being put in motion for a cast and crew screening prior to the DVD and limited theatrical run.  In an effort to put more of our individual voices on the website, MVP started posted personal blogs this week.

This first effort at making blog posts is a trial run and it is yet to be determined whether or not we will make this a regular feature.  If you like what you see – then leave a comment and let us know.  Speaking of “liking” what you see – whenever we post something for MVP here on the blog, Facebook or Youtube – be sure to hit the “like” button.

HIT THE LIKE BUTTON!!!

This is the function that helps spread the word about what we are doing and in doing so you help with that promotion.  Every time you hit “like” we can see it – and of course the reverse is true as well – if you’re not “liking” MVP we will miss you and your voice.  This blog serves to promote not only Mutantville Productions but horror, independent filmmaking and the film community in North Carolina.  We give you more promotion than anyone else around and it is in everyone’s best interest to support our efforts.  The more attention we can bring to North Carolina – the more opportunities it will bring to us all.

Speaking of those blog posts – you can check them out now.  Tuesday, Geo posted his first blog entry yet neglected to name the feature therefore I nominate the term Geo’s Synchronous Orbit because – well it sounds cool.  Wednesday, Brento posted the first installment of Brento’s Blog Beatdown and some of the artwork he’s been working on.  Thursday, Streebo posted the first edition of Streeborama and with it a new v-log from Youtube where he discusses the upcoming plans and projects for MVP.

IN THEATERS NOW!!!

This weekend, the remake of Sam Peckinpah’s 1971 classic Straw Dogs hits the theaters.  Also hitting selected theaters across the country is the intriguing new Korean monster flick entitled Sector 7.  The trailers for both the Straw Dogs remake and Sector 7 are posted here on Mutantville.com.

HALLOWEEN IS ON THE WAY!!!

In other news, the Carolina Theatre announced their lineup for the Escapism Festival next month.  The Carolina Theatre has been doing intense renovations all summer long forcing them to host their monthly Retrofantasma meetups at the nearby Casbah restaurant and bar.  Escapism will represent a welcome return to the actual theater!  This year’s lineup includes Beetlejuice, Exlporers, Fletch, The Great Muppet Caper, Gremlins, Pink Floyd: The Wall, The Road Warrior, Scrooged, Short Circuit, Stand By Me, Wargames, Xanadu, Young Sherlock Holmes, Airplane!, The Naked Gun: From the Files of Police Squad, Bon Voyage, Charlie Brown, and Race For Your Life Charlie Brown.  Buy your tickets now by clicking here.

DR.AC NEEDS YOUR SUPPORT!!!

I was pleased to open my email today and see a message from my good friend Dr.AC – the editor of the critically acclaimed Horror 101: The A-List of Horror Films and Monster Movies! It seems that Aaron is gearing up for another fun October watching horror films and is going to do a little charity work as well.  I’ll let him explain it to you:

“Howdy my fellow fiends,

Looking forward to October?  I know I am.

As some of you might remember, last year I engaged in a personal fundraising effort called SCARE-A-THON 2010.  In the spirit of a read-a-thon or walk-a-thon, I asked folks to sponsor me on a per-horror movie basis, with a suggested donation of $.10/movie.  As a result of a few emails and Facebook posts (and a whole lot of movie watching), together we managed to raise over $1500 for Season of Concern, a Chicago-based organization providing direct care to people living with HIV and AIDS.  Amazing.

But even more exciting was watching other people spontaneously start up their own Scare-A-Thons, with donations going to their own causes of choice.  It did my heart good to know that while we were indulging in our favorite pastime, we were also making the world a little better place, one movie at a time.

I’ll be sending out this year’s “Sponsor Me” email in a couple weeks (benefiting AmeriCares U.S. Storm/Tornado Relief), but I wanted to plant the seed in my monster friends out there and encourage you to reach out to your own respective social circles, family and friends.  Choose your own organization, choose your own means of soliciting donations.  We’re a passionate bunch, and it would be great to see that passion serving a double purpose.   By sending an email or two, and then watching the horror flicks we’re going to watch anyway, we can make a big difference for someone.  Kinda cool, yeah?

If you have any questions or need help putting your campaign together, feel free to drop a line.  The Doctor is IN.

Have a great All Hallows holiday season!

talk soon,

AC”
