Fourth Annual Mad Monster Film Fest Winners Announced!

Charlotte, NC — This past weekend, the new Sheraton Hotel played host to the returning Mad Monster Party convention and the Fourth Annual Mad Monster Film Fest. Mutantville Productions was on hand to host three days of films running the gamut of genres from horror to fantasy to science fiction. At the start of the third day, the festival winners were announced to the fans and filmmakers in attendance.

BEST HORROR – Honeyspider
dir Josh Hasty written by Kenny Caperton

It’s Halloween day in 1989 and college student Jackie Blue wants to enjoy a quiet birthday in the midst of a chaotic semester at school. Her friend Amber has other ideas and persuades Jackie to come to the annual Monster Mash party on campus after her shift at the local movie theater. As murder plays out on the silver screen during the theater’s Halloween night Horrorthon, Jackie falls under a strange spell, all while a mysterious stranger watches over her every move. As the night unfolds, Jackie slowly unravels and everyone around her is turning up dead. Jackie finds herself helplessly trapped like prey in a spider’s web, and all she can do is try to survive the night!

dir Robert W. Filion

Athena is about Carl whose life has crumbled, and who now exists as a shell of a man. His wretched existence is punctuated by the loss of his wife and all of the emotional scarring that has created. It’s also about Emily, who is not well herself. She may be slightly schizophrenic and manic depressive, but she’s doing fine in general… stable job, active social life. Things could be better, if only she had Carl. There is hope, however. Hope in the form of a voice which appears to Carl, then to Emily. That voice is Athena, but is she merely manipulating the situation, or is she genuinely attempting to help these two people? Life is messy, and she could be making things worse.

BEST SCI-FI – The Orbs
dir Jesse K. Knight

Wilbur lives a booze-ridden, smoke-filled life with Loraine.
The Orbs pass by them unnoticed, until one day…
