Looking at Speculative Fiction from Another Dimension.

Cronos (1993) on Classics Corner with Guillermo Del Toro.

This week on Classics Corner, we’re going to take a look at a modern take on a very old tale making for a very modern classic – Guillermo Del Toro’s directorial debut – Cronos.  The film starred Ron Perlman and Argentine actor Federico Luppi.  It features a take on the vampire’s tale without having any real vampires in the movie.

From IMDb:

You can find Cronos on DVD and Blu Ray.

“In 1535, an alchemist builds an extraordinary mechanism encapsulated into a small golden device. The invention, designed to convey eternal life to its owner, survives its maker until 1997, when it shows up with an antiques dealer. Fascinated with the strange device, Gris (Luppi) doesn’t note that there’s more than one person looking for it. The promise of eternal life has become an obsession for old and sick Mr. De la Guardia (Brook). He and his nephew (Perlman) will do anything to get the Chronos Invention.”

(NOTE: It goes without saying that if you haven’t seen Cronos – then you shouldn’t watch this interview. Go see the movie first then come back!)
