Let’s set the wayback machine for 1991 as we check out an early Mutantville Production written and directed by our very own make-up FX jedi Todd A. Britt and starring none other than a bodacious young Brent Bowers as the titular Vampire Narc! This is exploitation filmmaking at it’s finest.

Dario Argento’s film “Suspiria” is one film I always remember from my crash course in horror films from Streebo. During pre-production, production, post production of “C for Chaos”(and even now), Streebo has educated me on horror from around the globe. While filming we would sometime let me be really intense with the colored light. He would often cite “Suspiria” as a source of inspiration. So I was looking around and thought I’d provide some information about the film to those that may not be familiar with it or those wanting to hear other’s opinions.

Since the horror world was stunned by the amazing news that the uncut version of Nightbreed has not only been found – but will be screened at the upcoming Horrorhound convention in Indianapolis – what better time to show our love for Clive Barker by revisiting a few of his interviews from years gone by?

LOS ANGELES – Roger Corman, memorably dubbed “the Orson Welles of the Z-Movie” and “the Pope of Pop Cinema,” never expected the words “Academy Award recipient” would accompany his name.

The man, whose 350 movie credits include such low-budget fare as “The Masque of the Red Death” and “X: The Man With the X-Ray Eyes,” is receiving an honorary Oscar for a lifetime of achievement that includes mentoring such filmmakers as Francis Ford Coppola, Martin Scorsese, James Cameron and Ron Howard.

Corman, 83, said he was aware the board of governors of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences was considering him for the honor. He felt certain he would not make the cut, though.

“I predicted that I would not win because I make low-budget films, and I felt the academy would not give an award to someone who made low-budget films. I was truly surprised when I got the call,” Corman said in an interview at the offices of his production and distribution outfit, New Horizons Pictures.
