Nightbreed: Cabal Cut revealed at Mad Monster Party 2012.
CHARLOTTE, NC — Admist a weekend that saw Lo Pan rise from the dead surrounded by a bevy of gyrating half naked women, and everything from Doctor Scream’s Midnight Spookshow Revival to a Film Festival comprised of forty films and a guest list comprised of everyone from Ace Frehley to Brad Dourif and Rutger Hauer – the highlight of the convention for many fans was the special one time only screening of Clive Barker’s Nightbreed: Cabal Cut.
Since many fans – myself included – couldn’t make it to the show we have an update for you that will fill you in on how it all went. MVP was busy with the film festival through the entire runtime of Nightbreed: Cabal Cut and could not see the movie. Correspondent Roy Batty was on hand and witnessed everything that Cabal had to offer.

Nevermore Film Festival February 17th - 19th, 2012
Durham, NC, the time is upon us! Get out your seat cushion, load up on a pack of tums and turn off your iphone! This weekend, the Carolina Theatre in Durham will unleash a three day phantasmagoria of genre film during their thirteenth annual Nevermore Film Festival that is guaranteed to astound, shock and amaze you.
MVP attends the Nevermore Film Festival year after year in the hopes of discovering new hidden gems such as Bubba Ho-Tep, Rubber and The Black Death to name a few. Jim Carl, the senior director, and his committee never cease to amaze with their prescient selection of genre films. The festival always pleases those hoping to discover a new voice in the genre as well as those looking to enjoy the great films of the past. The diverse lineup at Nevermore – dare I say – never disappoints and this year’s selection looks to be no different.
This week on the Indie Filmmaker Spotlight we are featuring a panel from ConCarolinas 2011. The Mutantville Players were honored to be a part of a panel that featured not only legendary scream queen Brinke Stevens, but local filmmakers such as Christine Parker, Michael Ray Williams, Robert W. Filion, and Jaysen Buterin of Mad Ones Films. Topics discussed included everything from filmmaking to networking to how to promote in the digital age. We had some technical difficulties which delayed this video in post but we decided to go ahead and share it with you all anyway.
John Carpenter at the Fright Night Film Fest 2011.
I never realized how much of an influence John Carpenter was on my worldview growing up. He was responsible for so many of my favorite childhood movies – Big Trouble In Little China, Escape From New York, Starman and so many more. It wasn’t until I became a dedicated horrorphile that I realized John Carpenter was responsible for those movies and oh so many more of my favorites in the horror genre. Halloween, The Fog, Christine, The Prince of Darkness, In The Mouth of Madness and so many other undeniable horror classics came from his directorial hand.
As a fan and certified horror geek – I knew that Carpenter’s movies shone with greatness but it wasn’t until we started Mutantville Productions in the winter of 2003 – that I began to look at horror films with a more critical eye. I suddenly realized that Carpenter’s works were not only the work of a true auteur – but the work of inspired genius.

The Mutantville Players had the honor of meeting John Carpenter at the recent Fright Night Film Fest in Kentucky. We made the eight hour plus trip out to Louisville to talk to one of our filmmaking idols and one of the true Masters of Horror and it was well worth it. Carpenter has largely been absent from the horror world over the past decade – appearing long enough to participate in the Masters of Horror experiment on Showtime and also acting as a consultant for the F.E.A.R. series of video games on XBOX – so fans such as myself are happy to see him out promoting his latest effort The Ward at conventions and festivals across the country.
On Saturday at the event, Carpenter accepted questions directly from the crowd and MVP was there. No need to worry if you couldn’t make the trip – we’ve recorded it and uploaded it to the Mutantville Players Youtube account for you to enjoy. So – enjoy!
