Fright Night Film Fest 2011 and John Carpenter get ready for MVP!

The Mutantville Players are proud to announce that we’re gearing up to head back to the best horror convention on the east coast this summer – the Fright Night Film Fest on July 22-24th, 2011!  This year, promoter Ken Daniels is scouring the land to bring together the best selection of guests that one could shake a boomstick at!  The convention is heading back to the Fern Valley Hotel and Conference Center in Louisville, KY.

The guest of honor is the one and only John Carpenter director of such horror classics as Halloween, The Thing and In The Mouth of Madness.   This year’s event is reinforced by a second event that weekend in the form of the Fandom Fest with guest like “The Fonz” Henry Winkler,  ”Boba Fett” Jeremy Bulloch, and will feature reunions from the cast American Grafitti and Revenge of the Nerds.

We’re still months away from the event so more guest announcements are sure to come!  The anticipation is killing us all – but the wait will be worth it.  For regular updates on the convention, please check out the official fanpage on Facebook by clicking here.

Be sure to check out MVP’s multi-part interview with Ken Daniels about the upcoming show by checking out the Mutantville Players Youtube Channel.

Oscars Forgotten as MVP Playa Awards Announced.

Matthew Ewald as Fr.McLennon in Indigo Child.

Just in time for the Academy Awards, it’s the MVP Playa Awards! Last night, Streebo finished his last review of the mainstream horror releases of 2010 when he went to see Darren Aronofsky’s Black Swan. Mutantville.com has tallied the votes and now we are ready to present this year’s MVP Playas Awards.

Streebo began reviewing all the major mainstream horror releases during their theatrical run back in 2004 on the IMDb Horror Board in the topic: Diagnosing the Problems and Celebrating Modern Horror. Streebo’s First double feature review was a back to back viewing of Saw and The Grudge. The topic was eventually locked on the IMDb due to exceeding the allowed number of responses which at one point numbered almost 800 in total.

Streebo has kept the tradition alive since 2007 when he changed the title to Celebrating Modern Horror and began posting v-log reviews as opposed to written essays. He spent all of last year watching the latest releases and reviewing them for you and today we are proud to announce the winners of 2010′s MVP Playas Award.

Mutantville Productions releases first official trailer for “G.H.O.S.T.”

There have been rumblings about an official trailer for MVP’s supernatural thriller coming from the Mutantville offices for the past month.  Fans on Facebook have been privvy to constant updates about work on a “trailer” for weeks on end with little else being offered in the way of explanation.  This morning – a video marked “G.H.O.S.T. trailer” has appeared on the Mutantville Players Youtube channel and the internet seems all abuzz about this sneak peek at the latest full length feature from the MVP team.

No official word yet on a release date as writer director J.T.”Streebo” McRoberts states that “there are still a lot of visual FX and music to be done – but we’re making progress every day.  The performances we captured were amazing and we’ve put every little horror movie trick we could think of in the movie.  In the end – it will be worth the wait.”

G.H.O.S.T. stars Kathy Butler Sandvoss, Clint Jones, Dave Tunik, Jack Stecher, Scott Thomas, Jason Wheeley, Kayli Tolleson and Matthew Ewald.  Check out the offical trailer at the link below:

Kevin Smith Releases Trailer to Horror Film: “Red State”.

Kevin Smith has long been one of the voices of my generation. Over the years he has said all there is to say about Generation X and it’s place in America in films such as Clerks, Chasing Amy, and Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back. Smith returns to his more subversive Dogma-like  ways in a genre that’s new to him – horror. Kevin Smith has released the first trailer to his horror film – Red State.

Ever since I first heard about Smith’s desire to ride the horror wave of popularity, I questioned whether or not he could create the proper tone and atmosphere needed in a horror film. Smith’s movies have always been about laughs – but horror is about scares. After viewing the trailer you can color me impressed because I think Smith has chosen the perfect horrific subject matter with his violent religious zealots.

Red State should make a nice entry into the rural horror sub-genre that has it’s foundations in the disturbed graves and sizzling stoves of Ed Gein. I look forward to seeing the final product. Party on, Mr. Smith. Let the screaming begin.

Vampire Narc

Let’s set the wayback machine for 1991 as we check out an early Mutantville Production written and directed by our very own make-up FX jedi Todd A. Britt and starring none other than a bodacious young Brent Bowers as the titular Vampire Narc! This is exploitation filmmaking at it’s finest.
