Evil Dead kills G.I.Joe Retaliation at the Box Office, MVP Mutant Radio goes Mad Monster Party and More on Mutantville Mondays!

Apr 8, 2013

The Evil Dead remake justified its existence over the weekend by taking the number one spot at the box office. For months leading into this weekend – fans were concerned that the Evil Dead remake would not live up to the expectations of its namesake – The Evil Dead. Apparently their concerns were unfounded as their thirst for blood was sated – and then some! Audiences were both thrilled and disgusted by the cinematic carnage they had witnessed. Evil Dead (2013) took in an estimated $26 million at the box office beating out the Rock in G.I.Joe Retaliation on Wrestlemania weekend with the Rock headlining against John Cena no less! Perhaps they were all at home watching the Rock instead of going to the theaters. I like the idea that Evil Dead (2013) can come in like the little movie that could and dethrone the bigger stars for the weekend. Speaking strictly as a fan – I enjoyed every bit of Evil Dead (2013) and thought it honored Sam Raimi’s original – The Evil Dead – nicely. Be sure to check out our advance review of Evil Dead (2013)! Now that you’ve seen the movie – you can listen to our spoiler discussion as well! MVP Mutant Radio recently attended the Mad Monster Party in Charlotte, North Carolina and returned with some exclusive audio of Bruce Campbell as he talks about the new Evil Dead and the possibility of Army of Darkness 2. MVP Marketing Seminar a Success, Nevermore and Mad Monster Party on the way on Mutantville Mondays!

Welcome back to another Mutantville Monday here on the MVP Blog. We’re off and running in preparation for this year’s Mad Monster Party Film Festival and all of the wild events that surround it. Ever since we announced the final call for entries for this year’s festival – we’ve been flooded with submissions. The festival lineup is shaping up quite nicely. It looks like this March is going to be a great time for MVP and our friends. This past weekend, Geo and myself stopped by Channel 21 in Charlotte to conduct a special seminar on social media marketing for film. We had a nice turnout and the response to the course was very positive. We were able to film the event and will turn it into a part of MVP’s online course on marketing and filmmaking. It is very gratifying to see another piece of the MVP Empire Puzzle fall sharply into place. Get your full MVP rundown after the leap! Before we get to March we have a pit stop to make at this year’s Nevermore Film Festival as Brento’s first side project Take That was accepted into this year’s lineup. Our good buddy and sometimes cohort – Robert W. Filion also has a film in the lineup as his short Lot 66 made the cut as well. They’re also featuring a limited one time only screening of Dawn of the Dead, The ABC’s of Death, and John Dies at the End. All in all it should be a great event. Brento is gearing up for some pickup shots for Take That this weekend. The DVD proof for G.H.O.S.T. is in transit to Geo’s house as we speak! It’s just a matter of time until we have Tales from Mutantville on the way as well. We’re getting ready to order our teeshirts for this year’s show and more. Thanks for stopping by the MVP Blog. Keep checking back for instant updates about movies, filmmaking and more. Enjoy this fine selection of Mutant TV as well as the most recent episode of MVP Mutant Radio as we start our Mad Monster Party countdown by talking to filmmaker Robert W. Filion about his work...

Welcome back, Muties! It’s a special Martin Luther King Jr. Day edition of Mutantville Mondays here at Mutantville.com. It’s special in that we have the day off and we’re going to use it to get caught up on our rest. Rather than spend too much time pontificating and philosophizing about the ups and downs of real life – we’re going to make a few quick points and then leave you with a selection of Mutant TV to get you through the day. Horror returned to the box office in a big way over the weekend as the Guillermo Del Toro produced MAMA (2013) took in an estimated $28 million. When horror and science fiction succeed at the box office – it’s a good day for all of us. We should receive word about the impeding status of the DVDs for G.H.O.S.T. and Tales from Mutantville any day now. We’re as excited as everyone else to get the DVDs out to the world so be sure to sign up for the MVP newsletter by using the box here on the MVP Blog so that you are notified via email the moment that MVP news breaks. All of the movies and MVP products will be available for purchase at the upcoming Mad Monster Party in March. Get your full Monday rundown after the leap! Speaking of the Mad Monster Party – we are gearing up for the event and putting all the wheels in motion as we once again host the Second Annual Mad Monster Party Film Festival. Look for a special MVP announcement in the coming days regarding the first wave of official selections for this year’s event. We’re currently reviewing all of the submissions received to date and are in the process of culling the heard to find the best horror, fantasy and science fiction independent films around. Be sure to submit your films for consideration before the deadline. There will be no extensions and no exceptions. Submit it before then so we can avoid the drama. Thank you. We’re also making a list of the Mutantville Players that will be in attendance at the upcoming convention. Mutica the Movie Goddess and the star...

MVP ready to kick off 2013 with Mad Monster Party, Nevermore and You on Mutantville Mondays.

What a wild strange weekend it was in the land of MVP. We set out to start our weekend with a pilgrimage to see one of the greatest science fiction movies ever created at the theater – only to find out at the last minute that the print for 2001: A Space Odyssey was delayed by Warner Bros. – thus spoiling our pilgrimage and leaving the day in a bit of a slump. Fortunately we were able to rectify that with a nice blu ray viewing of 2001: A Space Odyssey and it did help take some of the sting away. Get the rest of your daily dose of MVP after the leap! Fortunately – things are moving along at a brisk pace as the first major convention of the year – Charlotte’s own Mad Monster Party – lurks just around the corner – and everyone is getting excited about it. Fans are psyched to see the big names that are coming such as Bruce Campbell, Harau Nakujima, Kirk Hammett and so many more – while filmmakers are getting excited to be a part of the Second Annual Mad Monster Party Film Festival. Be sure to download the submission form and send in your movies – now! Don’t wait! The Mutantville Players are gearing up to shoot a special promo for the convention and festival so stay tuned as more on that develops. Before we make it to MMP – we have the Nevermore Film Festival waiting for us in February. Before then – there’s the Nevermore Fundraiser which will consist of a double feature of Evil Dead and Evil Dead II. Can you say “groovy”? I knew you could. So what are you waiting for? There’s a ton of stuff to do so let’s get to it. We’ll leave you with a selection of Mutant TV to keep you entertained in the meantime. The Hobbit, Mutants and Movies, Oh My, on Mutantville Mondays!

We’ve been having a productive month here at MVP. We’ve been moving forward on bringing the DVDs of G.H.O.S.T. and Tales from Mutantville to the internet and hope to have them launched after the new year. We’ve been inundated with requests for screeners and the like and are temporarily unable to fill those requests until after DVD is released. Even as work on three projects wind down, work is going on behind the scenes on scripts for future productions, promotions and much more. We all made it out to see The Hobbit over the weekend so look for a full fledged Mutantville Players review to pop up on that soon. In short – we all loved it! Go see it with your family today! Get the rest of your MVP update after the leap! Speaking of promotions – we’ve begun fielding submissions for the upcoming Mad Monster Party Film Festival and they’re pretty kick ass so far! Amidst all of this we’re doing our best to spend time with our families and enjoy the holidays here and there. Never fear for as we rest, the glitter coated elves of MVP are hard at work aboard the Mothership making MVP DVDs for all the good little mutant girls and boys of the multi-verse! The most recent episode of MVP Mutant Radio featured a double barreled review of Django Unchained and The Man with the Iron Fists. We released it early on Saturday, and it’s already been downloaded to homes across the globe. It always warms the cockles of my heart to think that our voices can go out to tickle brain-stems as far away as Taiwan, Australia, Sweden, Norway, Argentina and Chile!
