The Halloween Tour with Johnny Brento and Absolute Zero

All the world is just a stage and we are merely players indeed. I sometimes wish I were just a film maker or just a special effects guy or what have you, but God, in his infinite wisdom has made me a multi-faceted artist. I’m glad he did because that means I get to play more roles!

I’ve been criticized for being into too many things. The truth is, I couldn’t care less about the haters. Artistically, I am what I am. I love film making, martial arts and making music. Despite what some would like to believe, I am accomplished in all those areas.

3 original music albums made to date and working on the 4th. 2005 National Jiu-Jitsu BudWiser Champ, Relson Gracie Worlds Co-Champion. I’ve written and directed 2 short films and produced, provided visual effects and co-edited an original horror feature which will screen this Sunday for the first time. I’ve LOVED all of it!!!

None of these things could be accomplished without commitment and focus. During phases in my life one passion will take over and the others will take a back seat. There’s something to be said for a broad range of experience.

Johnny Brento & The People Versus Alcoa

Happy Wednesday Everyone!

Usually, I keep things light on my weekly Vlog/Blog article but from time to time I feel the need to speak on a serious matter. Any of you who live in the Yadkin-Pee Dee River Basin, as I do, or indeed in the whole of North Carolina need to be aware that a proverbial fox has been in the hen house and is currently attempting to establish a long term residence there.

Johnny Brento’s Blog Beat Down

Ha. Ha! Long time no causal Brento blog. Today I thought I’d share an interesting side project that I revisit from time to time. I’m creating a massive poster artwork called, “Enter The Net.”

Following in the footsteps of one of my favorite 3d artists, neelzonline, I’ve started my own Mega-Figure Poser project. In my case, the workflow happens entirely in
PoserPro 2010. To avoid scaling and just the general headache of exporting and importing, I’m skipping the Vue part and searching for a way to do this completely inside good ole Poser. Apart from that, I’m following the techniques which neelz lays out in his original thread. You’ll need to be a member of the Daz3d forums to respond but not to view.

neelzonline’s incredible 1111 figure image project can be viewed here.

Collector’s Corner Launches a Dedicated Channel

Let’s face it, Mutant TV has a LOT of video content. Streebo recently posted our 350th video. To that end I’ve launched a dedicated sub channel for the Collector’s Corner video’s featuring Streebo & Johnny Brento. I’m calling it VHS Graveyard because I hope to focus my share of the videos on my ever expanding collection of rare and out of print horror VHS. The first episode includes a brief explanation and of the premise and a rather huge unboxing of 50 VHS fresh in from eBay. As you know, posters, toys, movies, posters and all kinds of memoribilia are fair game on Collector’s Corner.

I’d like to make one small correction to the schedule mentions in the video. Collector’s Corner is released here on Mutantville.com on Wednesdays, not Tuesdays. As always please leave feedback in the comment box and like or subscribe to the channel if the show works for you. Sorry, the first few are so dark. That gets corrected around episode 3.

The Funhouse – This Week on the Horror

This week on The Horror, Johnny Brento shares his enthusiasm for the film, “Funhouse” and also proudly displays the one sheet from his now famous poster collection. This Tobe Hooper directed effort came to us from 1981. And featured a very game cast.

Synopsis: Two young couples on a double date go to a mysterious carnival. As a prank they decide to spend the night in the funhouse. When they witness a brutal murder, they suddenly find themselves in horrific danger.

Tagline: Something is alive in the funhouse…something that, tonight, will turn the funhouse into a carnival of terror!

The House Where Evil Dwells – Mutantville Collector’s Corner

The House Where Evil Dwells was a pleasant surprise for this collector. I purchased my big box copy solely on the strength of it’s box art. It only seems right that I should scan it and add to the awesomeness that is VHS Wasteland. Check out the full res version.

Here’s the skinny on what it’s about. In 1840, a samurai comes home to find his wife in bed with another man, so he kills them both and then himself. This is easily the most gruesome dismemberment by sword scene I’ve ever witness and it all takes place in slow motion. It’s not over quickly either, with the adulterer backpedaling to escape, throwing all manner of obstacles in the way of the pissed samurai who slashes through furniture and flesh alike in gut churning detail. He offs the backdoor man and his wife before seppukuing himself. This scene alone makes the film worth checking out for you gorehounds. It’s 3 – 4 minutes of pure awesomness that would make a great start to any film. Literally one of the 10 greatest murder scenes on film IMHO.

Flash-forward to the present day (which for the purpose of the film is the early 80′s), and an American family of three moves into this since-abandoned house and starts to experience incidents of haunting and possession. This is where things take a turn for the worse, for the fictional family and the viewer. Things slow way down. A shakey script, mediocre cinematography and uneven performances plague the picture like the transparent blue protagonists. The film has some interesting, if not altogether scary visual effects for the Ghost inhabitants.

Story-wise the film is a real mess. It’s not scary or clever but utterly predictable. What it does have in copious amounts is a very large cheese factor! If you are a fan of Japanese culture like most of us here at Mutantville or if you love a so bad it’s good movie experience, you’ll find lots to appreciate about “The House Where Evil Dwells”.
