Looking at Speculative Fiction from Another Dimension.

Carolina Challenge proves too difficult for local filmmakers.

Earlier this year we were pleased to announce the Carolina Challenge with our friends at the Back Alley Film Series and the Charlotte Crownpoint Cinemas in an effort to find the best new short films in horror, sci-fi, and fantasy from the Carolinas. Much to our dismay too many potential entries ran much longer than the allotted runtime of twenty minutes. We had requests from individuals wishing to enter their 30 to 40 minute short films in the contest – but as we were looking for curtain raisers to play in the cinema – we needed films that ran closer to 15 minutes in runtime.

Sadly we did not have enough qualifying entries to find a proper winner and the Carolina Challenge proved too difficult for filmmakers from North and South Carolina. It is with a heavy head that we have to announce there is no winner and that means no one wins the free passes to the Mad Monster Party 2013. The coveted Saturday night prime-time screening slot will go to another filmmaker – from outside of the Carolinas most likely. For anyone that was working on a short film for the contest but could not beat the deadline – please submit your film to the official Mad Monster Party Film Festival which will be announced later this week.
